yesterday my 8 year old dd said that she wished she would die - I was shocked, scared, concerned, etc. and asked her why she wanted to die.
She said that if she died she would wake up in Heaven and not have to wait for the Rapture. She said she is so excited for Jesus to come back that she just wants to fall asleep and then wake up and He is here.
One the one hand, I am happy she is so anxious for the Rapture and to see Jesus, but on the other, how do I deal with the death issue?

If you looked at some of the older submissions here you'd see that not all of the quotes here are meant to be funny. A good portion of them are shocking, disturbing, even anger inducing. We're dealing with fundies here for crissakes, what did you expect?
BTW- I feel terrible for this woman's kid, maybe she'll stop when she sees what happens when you tell kids fairy tales are real.
tell her the truth, heaven is a place that people made up to justify their existence on earth.
also, it was used to explain the things that man could not explain.
where did i come from? god.
why is there wind? god.
why does it rain? god.
what made that tree? god.
what created the universe? god.
god gives an easy answer for what man could not (and cannot) explain.
and a way not to fear death; because there is something to look forward to.
the other big reason for heaven (god) is that it is a gift for following god's guide on how to live your life... too bad it is full of racist, bigoted thinking. Thinking that say people who have different beliefs from your are wrong, and that they will suffer an eternity in hell for being different.
something that is echoed in most religions.
not Christian = going to hell.
not Jewish = going to hell.
not Muslim = going to hell.
not Hindu = going to hell.
I wasn't aware Hindus believed in hell, pr. Yeah, your next life might suck, but that's not exactly fire-and-brimstone-for-eternity.
If you think this is creepy, then wrap your head around that old submission with the dad telling his son that he'd kill him if God told him to, and the son replying that if God told his dad to kill him, he'd love to be killed and go to Heaven.
Creepy.
I am shocked, scared, concerned, etc., too, but probably for a different reason.
This is a brilliant and simple conundrum brought on by the religion myth. If life is just a big wet blanket of suffering and death is a doorway to Heaven and eternal bliss and endless happiness, then relgious nuts have a hard time explaining why we shouldn't all just get saved and then commit suicide.
I mean seriously, if it's all true, then why not? It's like waiting till Easter to open a Christmas gift. Why hang around here and be miserable? Not to mention the risk of sinning and then ending up in hell. No chance of screwing up like that if I kill myself now, right?
car, garage, exhaust. You, her, and the rest of your benighted family.
Your death cult really makes you unsuitable for any responsibility because you would sacrifice anything or anyone if it would bring your rapture closer.
Please remove yourself.
And yet, oddly enough, most parents would try and convince their daughter that this life has wonders to live for, too. However, most parents aren't a caustic presence, spreading depression around like cheap cologne.
Poor girl. This depresses and angers me to no end.
On a side note, whatever FSTDT uses for its database is having some issues, my post didn't show up initially.
How about you stop talking NONSENSE and abusing your 8 year old child? Hows that for a start? How the fuck would you expect her to think with the crap you have been putting into her brain?
This child should be taken from you, you are ruining her life.
Suicide for Jesus? I thought suicide was a sin.
Please sit your daughter down and tell her that there are still things worth doing in life. And then get thee to a therapist. And then go on a nice little vacation someplace with the family. Happy memories make life more bearable.
For RR-idiots, life really is a burden.
For me, RR-idiots really are a burden.
In short: RR-idiots shouldn't exist.
"One the one hand, I am happy she is so anxious for the Rapture and to see Jesus, but on the other, how do I deal with the death issue?"
How about family counseling? Then joining Fundamentalists Anonymous.
Confused?
