[There are those of us who make $100 donations each month to Planned Parenthood.
A dozen people making $100 donations each month is $14,400/year.
And the reason we do this is because we know so-called "abstinence education" doesn't work -- and we know that for a FACT (even if it isn't a "Republican fact") here in Texas because "abstinence only" education has given us the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in the country (and the highest rates of reported STDs).]
Untrue. Teenagers having sex has given you the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the country (if that's true)

Actually, Abstinence Only -> higher rates of teens having unprotected sex -> higher teen pregnancy rates
Abstinence Only education is like forbidding young girls to be taught about their impending menstrual cycles, then calling them every filthy word in the book when the inevitably soil their panties.

That reminds me of the start of the film Carrie, where her fundie mother didn't tell her about periods, and the girl got one when she was showering after sports at school, and didn't know what the fuck was happening.
FACT: Abstinence works.
FACT: Abstinence programs do not work.
FACT: Teens will continue to have sex anyway. That's when they are at their all-time horniest, and you can't easily fight nature.
FACT: Sticking your fundie fingers in your ears and yelling LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA will not cure the problem.
FACT: Condoms work, birth control pills work, morning-after pills work.
You know, it occurs to me. A condom, when used correctly (you know, like they teach in sex ed!) fails 2% of the time. The BC pill fails 0.3% of the time. Used together, that's a failure rate of .00006 percent. Compared to the likelihood of getting hit by a car crossing the street, I'm surprised fundies let their kids outdoors.

You mean that teen pregnancy has something to do with teenagers having sex? Stop the presses already! Now, Captain Obvious, please address the point, if you can.
Abstinence only programs have been shown to be a waste of money, here and over-seas.
Compare age of first intercourse, frequency of intercourse, STD and pregnancy stats from the Netherlands with those of the U.S.. We fail awfully.
Yes, but "abstinence education" doesn't stop teenagers from having sex. Here's the explanation, real simple:
Abstinence only education: teenagers have sex and get pregnant.
Birth control education: teenagers have sex and don't get pregnant.
Get it? In both cases teenagers still have sex. Abstinence education doesn't stop kids having sex. It just means they get pregnant instead of not getting pregnant.
@Patches: You said, "panties". *snicker*
The sex drive is the second strongest drive in the human body, just behind survival. Bodily urges (not mental urges such as fetishes and sexual predation) cannot be wished away. Abstinence doesn't work because of this. Without the occasional release of built-up pressure, the chemicals and hormones have to find a release somehow. this urgent need to purge often creates a barrier in the brain that prohibits one from making smart or clear decisions. This in turn can lead to sex without condoms etc. which puts one at risk of disease and pregnancy. I don't advocate telling kids to have sex, but as a former teen I know the power that an ignored or neglected sex drive can have. Truth is always better then lies, and the idea that one can 'Just say no' is a lie.
Yes, it´s true. What you don't get is that the highest pregnancy and STD rate is in the places where, supposedly, kids are abstaining from sex through these programs. Care to explain that?
There was a sort of abstinence-only sex ed thingy at the school I go to (in Ohio).....I think I was the only one who didn't sign the pledge, yet I'm a girl.
Besides, the thing said nothing 'bout being gay....or attracted to your cat....or bi.... Basically, it sucked.
LadyBaird (#251927):
A "Republican fact" is something Republicans steadfastly claim, even though it can be demonstrated to be false and the falseness of the claim can backed up with statistical data, e.g.,
"The war in Iraq will last no more than six weeks."
"Mission accomplished."
"If we teach kids "abstinence-only" sex education and make no mention of birth control, homosexuality or abortion, kids won't have sex until marriage and there won't be any gay kids (because learning about homosexuality makes kids want to go and try it, and that's when they decide to be gay) and if kids aren't having sex until they're married they won't have abortions."
"We can cut taxes for the wealthy, go to war in Iraq, building bridges to nowhere and glass-enclosed tropical rain forests in the middle of Iowa and run up a $10.3 TRILLION debt financed by China, Japan and Saudi Arabia -- and nobody will have to worry about a thing and everything will be JUST FINE!"
Those are examples of "Republican Facts".
Confused?
