Quote# 25892

Don't speak too soon. We have "freedom of religion" yet people have been expelled for praying in school, we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers. We have "freedom of speech" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of "hate crimes".
God has blessed America and we're a great country but we're turning on God. What makes you think that he will continue to bless a country who has started to curse him? Without God's protection our country COULD fall. We could loose our freedoms to outside invaders. Or (more likely) we could give up our freedoms.

people have been expelled for praying in school

Prove it. Names, towns, etc. Not just \"I heard it from my cousin who heard the story from someone at her church.\"

Wet Walnuts

We have \"freedom of religion\" yet people have been expelled for praying in school,

Bullshit. This has never happened in any public school.
we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers.

Half-truth. This is only true at government-sponsored events.
We have \"freedom of speech\" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of \"hate crimes\".

Bullshit. Hate-crimes laws do not govern free speech except where there is direct incitement to violence.

Lying for Jesus award.

We have \"freedom of speech\" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of \"hate crimes\".
You would certainly be accused of bigotry, though no one would truly be able to silence you from a legal standpoint. The Phelps are living proof of this.
God has blessed America and we're a great country but we're turning on God. What makes you think that he will continue to bless a country who has started to curse him?
When has God ever even acknowledged America? It's not mentioned in the Bible.
Without God's protection our country COULD fall.
When has God ever protected anything? He let His own son get murdered, for fucks sake! I suppose you could count all those times He protected the Israelites when they were slaughtering everybody.
We could loose our freedoms to outside invaders. Or (more likely) we could give up our freedoms.
Oh no! Our freedoms are in danger? Outside invaders? I'd like to know what Opera Princess means by 'outside invaders', though I suspect it has something to do with Muslims. And I get the feeling that by 'freedoms', she means 'the freedom to prohibit other peoples freedoms'. Poor Christian majority, always being picked on and persecuted by the unbelievers.

Gosh, I sure hope god isn't mad that we are not killing enough of teh gayz and bails on us. He's doing such a good job now, I'd hate for him to stop, er, to not continue to...um...you know, the way he...Hmmm. What the hell does he do again?

Do you people have ANY FUCKING CONCEPTION of what hate-crime legislation covers? May the sand fleas of a thousand wandering Isrealites infest your crotch and may your arms be too short to scratch.

sorry ya'll - working on a research project where I have to listen to interviews of LGBT-inspired violence makes me oh, just a little bit touchy on the subject.

Standing there and screaming to the world about how you hate gay people IS free speech. Picking up a baseball bat and attacking someone is NOT free speech. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Nobody has been expelled from a Public school for praying. The only thing it happens is that a school can't sanction prayer in the school, which is not the same. In that consist freedom of religion(or would you consider freedom of religion to be forced to pray looking at Mecca, just because you live in a muslim country?). Concerning the name of Jesus, what is forbidden is to proselytise, during workhours and class, not just mention it in your spare time. Concerning hate crimes, well, are you in favour of racism?, why do you discriminate a person just for doing something in their bedrooms that doesn't affect you at all?. And finally, God DOESN'T, I repeat, doesn't protect anybody. He has 6 thousand million people to care about and you're not particularly blessed. Stop being so ethnocentric.

this is called \"Balancing of human rights\". basically, the government must decide which right is more important.

The only people willingly giving up their freedoms are the morons who support the Patriot Act, as well as cultural restrictions on criticisms of gov't, etc.

For the eventual fall of this country and the giving up of our freedoms, we can thank the Bushbaby voters in Jesusland.

Let's run this through my Bullshit-Filter 2007...
Don't speak too soon. We have \"freedom of religion\" [LIE], [LIE]. We have \"freedom of speech\" [EXAGGERATION].
[RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA] and we're a great country [RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA]. [RELIGIOUS FEARMONGERING]? [RELIGIOUS FEARMONGERING]. [NATIONALIST FEARMONGERING]. [POLITICAL FEARMONGERING].

Well. It's amazing what you get when you cut out all the crap.

The \"Patriot Act\"(pushed by a couple of rightwing Super-Christians, Bush and Ashcroft) is the biggest single threat to our liberties in US history. And it is soundly ignored by fundies and rightwingers in their bashing of liberals. It bears a SCARY resemblance to the \"enabling act\" by which the Nazis took over Germany in 1933. I suggest Princess and her cronies worry about a real threat to our liberties from \"their side of the table\" before inventing \"fake persecutions\" to forward their agenda of pushing their \"poor much-abused religion\" down others throats!

Don't speak too soon. We have \"freedom of religion\" yet people have been expelled for praying in school

IF (and that's a big if, I don't know though, as I'm not in the US) this true, then I will say I have to disagree with expelling students for praying.

we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers.

I suspect this one is bullshit pulled out from the person's arse.

We have \"freedom of speech\" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of \"hate crimes\".

No, it just means you're a bigoted arsehole.

God has blessed America and we're a great country but we're turning on God.

Oh noez!!!!111one Let me call the waaaahbulence.

What makes you think that he will continue to bless a country who has started to curse him?

Who the fuck cares?

Without God's protection our country COULD fall.

Um... okay?

We could loose our freedoms to outside invaders

Yep, but you invading other countries is a-okay!

Or (more likely) we could give up our freedoms.

If the Fundies won; the States would resemble Nazi Germany.

\"We have \"freedom of religion\" yet people have been expelled for praying in school, we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers. We have \"freedom of speech\" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of \"hate crimes\".\"

That's because we ALL have religious freedom, not just you and your pals.

Remember, Jesus told you to pray in private. Are you advocating for disobeying Jesus?

5/31/2007 3:09:32 PM

[i]McCulloch[/i]

We have \"freedom of religion\" yet people have been expelled for praying in school, we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers.
By leading others in prayer, you transgress their freedom of religion. Pray in private, like Jesus said and no one will bother you, even God.

We have \"freedom of speech\" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of \"hate crimes\".
You have \"freedom of speech\" yet if you speak up against the civil rights of african americans or jews, you are accused of \"hate crimes\". Yeah, so? There have always been limits on free speech.

God has blessed America and we're a great country but we're turning on God.
God has not blessed America, or even that one country within the two continents called America, the United States of America. It is a great country in terms of might and power and wealth but not in so many other ways. I certainly hope that you're turning against the God hypothesis, but I see little evidence of it.

What makes you think that he will continue to bless a country who has started to curse him?
Maybe the Bible could clear this up for you. He sends rain on the just and the unjust.

Without God's protection our country COULD fall.
I really don't think that God will protect your country. Why should he?

We could loose our freedoms to outside invaders.
Like those nasty white people from Europe who came here and stole all the land.

Beating people to death is not Free Speech.

Forcing children to pray to Your God is not Freedom of Religion.

Hate crime, no. Being a dumbass and a bigot, yes. Which, unfortunately, isn't illegal, but that's the price we pay for having freedom of speech. I'd rather tolerate your pig-ignorant bullshit than give up my right to speak against you, like has happened in Germany to some extent. (They're so gunshy about their Nazi history that they don't even allow comparison marketing in ads. Very sad.)
