Quote# 25896

[Joseph Chambers discusses the opening sequence of "The Lion King" where newborn cub Simba is shown off to the animals by Rafiki the baboon at the top of Pride Rock]

It's impossible to call this event anything but idolatrous. God's people are commanded "to worship the Lord thy God and Him only." They are even commanded to make no images to their God and not to use His namc in jest or in vain. To allow our children to glory in or be entertained by such a pagan ceremony is an abomination.

Find something useful and important to do, Joe. Raise money for cancer research, help feed the poor, volunteer to drive patients to medical appointments, but stop wasting time, energy and bandwidth picking on a harmless moment in a generally excellent children's movie. Get a life, Joe.

It's amazing that this idiot hasn't recognised a ritual that Kings in the Christian Middle Ages did, because it was a symbol of status. Moreover, that the ritual that they're doing with Simba is analogous to Baptism, and that all societies have a ritual, Pagan or not, to introduce the children to the community and has nothing to do with worshipping.

First of all, the characters in Lion King aren't human.
Second of all, they aren't \"worshipping\" Simba, they're bowing to the heir-apparent.
Third of all, it's just a movie.

In short, get yourself a hobby and stop trying to find blasphemy in mundane things.

Actually, its not just a movie. Its a Broadway show too. And we all know how God hates Broadway...

5/31/2007 4:48:43 PM

It's a movie. It's fiction.

5/31/2007 4:51:27 PM

It's fiction, you know, a make-believe story.
You should know all about make-believe, your Bible is full of it.
Oh, wait... You believe that shit in there is true.
That's why you can't tell the difference.

Yeah, and this putting your hand over your heart and singing the national anthem before a baseball game crap has got to go, as does pledging a fealty oath to an ungodly piece of star-spangled cloth--let alone standing and listening to \"Hail to the Chief\" when the President, who is demonstrably not Jesus, enters a room.

Did Joe have Lion King related nightmares during childhood? Or does he lack social skills entirely?

\"...to worship the Lord thy God and Him only.\"

Any god that needs to say that is a fucking loser.

Wait, what?

Damn that's dumb! The D.D. degree, incidentally, means the person couldn't get into a real college.

Doctor Whom

Whatever you do, don't kneel and pray in front of a Ten Commandments monument. That would be idolatry and would offend both the God of Abraham and the gods of irony.

5/31/2007 10:09:22 PM

God commanded his people, humans, to worship him. He didn't say anything about animals. And for fuck sakes it's fiction.

5/31/2007 10:37:17 PM

It's fiction! Gah...

5/31/2007 10:55:15 PM

I know it's a hard concept to grasp with your current mental computing ability, but please try.

If you watch Lion King 1.5, it shows the real reason why they bowed.

It's a cartoon that's now 13 years old. Kids that saw this when they were six are marrying and going to college now. You want to warn us of the dangers of reading the Marquis de Sade's 'Justine' while you're at it?

Papabear said it first; go find something worthwhile to occupy your time. There are plenty of people who need help.

Apparently Joseph has been in a coma for the past 13 years. He's also suffered severe brain damage.
