Quote# 27110

For some reason, I am coming across a heap of women that actually think that they ought to be allowed to vote in church business meetings. They also think they ought to be able to vote against their husbands. This horrifies me. Not only does my church not allow women to vote (the man is the head of the family, his vote is his family's vote) but if it did allow women to vote, I would NEVER vote against my husband as I believe that is usurping his authority. What do you all think?

I have noticed something from Katy-Anne's posts. Like many fundies of her ilk, she does not seem to actually be a Christian, but a Paulian. Why the heck are so many fundamentalists so rabidly obsessed with everything Paul said, even when it means conveniently forgetting, oh, y'know, JESUS?!?!

Seriously, these people take all their Bible "knowledge" from the OT and from Paul's writings, and ignore everything else. That's kind of a funny way to be a Christian...

Authority was meant to be usurped. You know, like that one Jesus dude you may have heard of who told the authorities of his time, "Fuck y'all, I'm going to be a nice person anyway despite your petty laws." Except that it's probably like SophieEleven described it, and all your ideas come from misunderstanding and ignoring only parts of the Bible.

I think you need to get off the net, go outside and mix with kids your own age, have some fun and get yourself into the 21st century before it's to late.

I think the reason for the Pauline affection of many fundies is that if they are as practically rigid and to-the-letter as is feasible, it helps their conviction that they aren't 'lukewarm'. They see any kind of less-than-rigid application as lukewarm, and something to avoid.

I think we should cut to the chase and call these people Pharisees, just like their hero "Paul" was.

I agree, these people never made a connection to Jesus.

a) women
b) men

Correct answer: A

When Jesus spoke at the home of Mary and Martha and Martha attacked Mary for listening to Jesus rather than helping in the kitchen, did Jesus:
a) Rebuke Martha and praise Mary
b) Tell Mary Martha was right and "get in the kitchen and make me a sandwitch."

I've been reading lots of these comments and other kinds of written quotations after receiving the link from a friend.

I really don't know what to think.

I have had a feeling that too many people in America and specifically the USA are really not able to look past their own noses, but if the comments I've been reading here are really the true beliefs of citizens of the USA, it's actually worse than I thought.

I just hope that the great country on the other side of the atlantic will some day be able to move into the modern world for real, leaving religious fundamentalists of all kinds behind.

If there are any christian fundamentalists reading this, of the kind that have been quoted on this site, I have to say that your views are in almost every aspect alike to the ones expressed by the Mullahs of Iran, or those expressed by Bin Ladin of Al-Quaeda. The only difference is really what "one and only truth" you are proclaiming. You are, actually, praising the same God even. Just in different ways. And you're telling everyone your way is the correct one and everyone else are wrong.
An intereseting thought, considering that protestants, exepcially in northern Europe, proclaim that there is not one single correct way of praising God, and that you will be taken into his embrace as long as you praise him and have love for him in your heart.

Myself being an atheist I don't believe it either way, but the protestant view just seems more appealing and more true to the basic message of your revered Bible. Unless, of course, you only look in the old testament. But if you only look there, you are in essence a jew and not a christian, so that may prove a problem...

That your church is a profoundly mysoginist one that sees women as objects, and slaves.

I think you should come and be my sex slave

but than again, changes are that you are not at all pleasing to the eye and you just proved that
a) having a interesting conversation with you is quite impossible
b) you are way to docile to be interesting in bed

so what would be the point

I'll stick to my realdoll for now, she's better company and has a higher IQ

I wonder what would happen if Katy-Anne's husband said to her "I married you because you're a smart woman. Make up you own mind. If you disagree with me, maybe God is using you to tell me something."

"Why the heck are so many fundamentalists so rabidly obsessed with everything Paul said, even when it means conveniently forgetting, oh, y'know, JESUS?!?!"

Because Jesus actually expected his followers to do things. Exactly what he expected them to do is a bit hazy. In Matthew, for example, Jesus tells his followers to follow the law. And then there is that business about giving away all of one's money, helping the poor and the afflicted, etc.

Paul, by contrast, presents a much more convenient Jesus. For Paul, Jesus did only one thing of note, he died. Fundamentalists find it much easier to worship a mutilated corpse than to show love for people who they feel are beneath them. As a consequence, Paul's word is revered while the demanding Jesus of the gospels is reduced to a mere figurehead.

"What do you all think?"

That I'm glad all other women don't think as you do. Frankly, you're an insult to those XX chromosomes you possess, and all that entails, Katy-Anne.

Self-thinking, intelligent women FTW.
