Let's try this again --- if it contradicts the Bible --- I automatically reject it.
I study it, and if something contradicts Scripture --- it's toast.
For instance:
* Science says the universe is 20 billion years old? This does not contradict Scripture. Therefore I take their word for it.
* Science says we came from chimpanzees? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it.
* Science says varves exist? This does not contradict Scripture. Therefore I take their word for it.
* Science says varves are evidence of tens of thousands of years of history? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it.

"I know the truth, don't confuse me with facts".
Pretty typical of this poster, though.
Not so much "I know the truth, don't confuse me with facts" but rather "I know the truth and I'll throw out any facts that contradict it".
Head Up My Ass Award seconded.
...if it contradicts the Bible --- I automatically reject it.
Fundamentalism in a Nutshell.
* Science says we came from chimpanzees? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it.
Actually, science does not say that. It says we share a common ancestor.
20 billion year old universe DOES contradict scripture. You can do the ol' "it's not literal; it's allegory/metaphor" apologetic, but then you might as well do the same for ape/human common ancestry thing and not be retarded about it.
P.S. Science does not say we came from chimpanzees, nor does it says varves are evidence of tens of thousands of years of history. Rather, humans and chimps have common and ancestry, and varves are evidence of millions of years of geological history.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!
* Science says the universe is 20 billion years old? This does not contradict Scripture. Therefore I take their word for it.
Where does Scripture say the universe is 20B? Even so, I applaud your efforts... I think O.o
* Science says we came from chimpanzees?
No.
* Science says varves exist? This does not contradict Scripture. Therefore I take their word for it.
* Science says varves are evidence of tens of thousands of years of history? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it."
And yet you said the universe was 20B years old? So which is it?
"Let's try this again --- if it contradicts the Bible --- I automatically reject it."
Because, of course, a bunch of unsophisticated nomads living in a desert can know so much more than modern scientists. This, you say as you type on your computer in your big, air-conditioned house.
"I study it, and if something contradicts Scripture --- it's toast."
Do yourself a favor and see whether, any bit of modern medicine contradicts scripture (it does).
Or whether bats are birds. Or whether rabbits chew their own cud. Or (even better) whether camels have split hooves.
Looks like you'd still have to at least think about what you're reading, eh?
If it contradicts AV1611VET, I automatically embrace it.
I keed, I keed.
Seriously though, fundamentalism in a nutshell.
* Science says the universe is 20 billion years old? This does not contradict Scripture. Therefore I take their word for it.
* Science says varves are evidence of tens of thousands of years of history? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it.
I have absolutely no idea where this guy came up with either of those, as the Bible is entirely silent on the subject.
Those two statements also contradict each other, since have a 20 billion year old universe would make for more than tens of
thousands of years of history.
* Science says the universe is 20 billion years old
* Science says we came from chimpanzees
* Science says varves exist
* Science says varves are evidence of tens of thousands of years of history
...And this concludes AV1611VET's entire knowledge of modern science. Thank you and good night, folks.
Pi is not equal to three, the sun does not revolves around the earth, the earth is not flat, donkeys and snakes can't talk, a global flood never happened...... But if you would rather ignore facts and you would rather think that the writings of bronze age sheep herders is the answer for everything, go ahead. This is Fundamentalism in a Nutshell + Head Up My Ass.
Hollio: I have absolutely no idea where this guy came up with either of those, as the Bible is entirely silent on the subject.
That's what he means. The Bible doesn't directly contradict the evidence in these two cases, ergo, the evidence may be allowed. This time. But you just watch yourself before you try and slip some of that thar evoLEWshun in mah edjamackayshun.
Those two statements also contradict each other, since have a 20 billion year old universe would make for more than tens of thousands of years of history.
Not really. 20 billion is tens and tens and tens and tens and tens and tens and... you get the idea. He doesn't say how many tens of thousands. :P
"Let me try this again -- if it contrdicts the Bible -- I automatically reject it."
Fundieism in a Nutshell!
As for your basic science errors:
1 The universe is about 13.8 billion years old not 20 billion.
2 We don't come from chimpanzees, but humans and chimps do share a comon ancestry.
You accept the universe being billions of years old but you don't accept varves as evidence for tens of thousands of years of history? You win a Non Contradiction award for that one.
Oh, another thing. I think he got this scripting from "The Princess Bride"
'I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.'
if it contradicts the Bible --- I automatically reject it.
Yeah, me too.
Like when people try to tell me that Judas hanged himself, that contradicts Scripture. Therefore I reject that because Acts 1:18 clearly says he fell and his bowels burst open.
And when people try to tell me Judas' bowels burst open, that contradicts Scripture. Therefore I reject that, because Matthew 27:5 clearly says Judas hanged himself.
@John: Nice.
We should make a list of all the places where the Bible contradicts itself, and then whenever some fundie goes on about how things that contradict the Bible are wrong, or how the Bible is completely internally consistent, we can just randomly select a few from the list.
"Science says we came from chimpanzees? This does contradict Scripture. Therefore I automatically reject it."
What you mean, "we" monkeyboy?
Science was just trying to postulate reasons why your intellect is sub-human. Here, have a banana and STOP TRYING TO THINK!
Ah. So you believe that all animals are tame, then? (James 3:7)
Let's test that theory - in the Outback.
fucking mental illness everywhere
PS, horrible claims, 20 billion, chimps.
fail
"Science says the universe is 20 billion years old?"
No it doesn't.
"Science says we came from chimpanzees?"
No it doesn't.
Bible contradicts itself thousands of times; It's a rather pathetic forgery anyway.
not 20 billion.
not chimps.
varves exist ? yes they do , go see one if you can or there are pictures.
varves and thousands of years ? yes that is true.
so wrong, wrong, meh and wrong.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
