Quote# 2844

Groups that descended into animism [after Noah's flood] might never emerge from this ‘stone age’ of their development, because of the stifling effects of such things as taboos, and fear of evil spirits. One tribal group in the Philippines, for example, had a taboo against water, causing rampant disease due to lack of hygiene—before the Gospel of Jesus Christ rescued them from superstition.

Groups that descended into fundamentalism might never emerge from this ‘stone age’ of their development, because of the stifling effects of such things as taboos, and fear of evil spirits. One tribal group in the Southern United States, for example, had a taboo against science and education, causing rampant disease due to inbreeding and lack of medicine—before clearer minds rescued them from home-schooling.

Didn't most Europeans believe that bathing was unhealthy a few centuries ago?

Disease from lack of hygiene has nothing to do with not being Christian. In fact, I'm willing to bet the belief that disease was caused by demons or sin kept the germ theory from being accepted as quickly as it should have been.

The gospel of Jesus Christ clearly says to wash hands before eating and to take daily baths. :rolleye:

BULLLLLLSHIT!

Being a Fundie preacher or commentator is the easiest gig in the world. You can talk crap without ever being questioned under the "lying for Jesus" umbrella.

So Christianity is better because there are more insane beliefs systems?

That's like saying lead isn't so bad because arsenic exists.

How do you "rescue" anyone by replacing one stupid superstition with another? Because that's all converting to the Gospel amounts to.

Taboos and Fear of evil spirits?

You mean, christian fundamentalist taboos like same-sex marriage, contraceptives, sex education, tolerance for other cultures, feminism, theory of evolution, and countless more?

And aren't fundies telling me all the time that I should fear god, a god who is described in the bible as both a spirit and one of the most malicious and evil beings ever?

Okay, fundies don't see their god as evil, but most of them seriously believe in the existence of demons and satan, which they see as evil spirits which must be feared.
