As well as the common meaning related to consumerism, materialism refers in philosophy to the belief that the physical world is all there is, i.e. disbelief in the supernatural. Materialism is therefore a corollary of rationalism, as well as being strongly linked with atheism and to a lesser degree irreligion. Dialectical materialism formed the basis of Marxist philosophy, though not all socialists or even all Marxists are materialists. Those who believe in ghosts, souls, the afterlife, or other supernatural phenomena, though they may be atheists, are not materialists. Naturalist is a similar but different term, and like materialism has different meanings as well.

So he kinda means atheist critics of religion when he says "materialists". Unfortunately for both Socrates and this dipshit stealing his good name, evolution has nothing to do with materialism other than being naturalist science. It also has nothing to do with atheism other than demonstrating miraculous creation is not necessary to explain existence. The modern synthesis/theory of evolution (say it with me) makes no assertions about the supernatural, only the natural world.

@OP: You might want to let Christian humanists know that their philosophy entails hatred of Christianity. Also, flip the capitalised words in your first sentence to read a factual statement.
