Quote# 2923

[Plagiarized from a website]One of the biggest problems with atheism is the ultimate conclusion one must make with regard to morality. If there is no God, there is no moral giver. No moral-giver, no morals. No morality, nothing wrong with killing. Stepping on a roach and killing a baby=same thing without morals.

"No God, no moral giver"

Didn't you have parents?

1/19/2008 2:22:59 AM

They call me V

Yeah, 'cause... I don't have to obey to any rules because there's no skydaddy to dictate what I'm supposed to do.

Srsly, what does fundies think that cold feeling in their gut after they've done something they shouldn't, is?

If you weren't so scared of public education and colleges, you could discover this wasn't true in a basic philosophy course.

Such a narrow and stunted definition of morals.

NO, not no moral giver. It means you are responsible for your own morals. BIG difference.

The worrying thing is that this implies that the only thing stopping all those fundamentalists out there who believe this to be true from murdering people for fun is the fear of upsetting God. In which case, attempting to shake their belief in any way is probably a bad move.

But we do have morals. We make morals up ourselves. Are you so lazy and dependent on God that you can't determine right from wrong on your own.

" If there is no God, there is no moral giver"

God's the moral giver?
Is this the same god who said it's okay to sell slaves and stone people to death?
Some moral giver.

Dude, your god considers a guy tapping on a stone one too many times suitable grounds to let him rot in the desert when he spent like 50 years doing all of God's work for him before that. No morality to be found.

The absence of moral absolutes is not a downside to atheism, it's an upside. Without a "God" to dictate morality, people are free to make their own rules provided that they are capable of doing so and don't simply take on some other external source as a new "God".

If there is no gods, there is no gods. End of story.

Atheist still have to follow the laws.
Nobody has ever told me that it's bad to kill people because gods say so. They told me that it's bad to kill people because then they are dead. Their families will miss them, they will no longer be able to contribute to society. Plus, evolution says it's bad to kill your own species.

Whereas, if you do believe in a god, you can perform any act and say it was "god's will." As evidence, I submit the Book of Joshua from the bible.

No Santa, no gifts. Thus gifts prove that Santa exists.

Yet the morals of the God of the bible sucks.

The moral giver is inside us normal decent humans, NoahK. It's called a conscience. It was evolved due to us being social animals who had to cooperate to survive. I know this must be hard to understand for a sociopath like you, who only stay away from killing, maiming, raping and stealing out of fear of a big bully in the sky.
