When Jesus walked the earth when he was here, he saw Paganism all over.
Considering that he lived in a monotheistic society, I think the only pagans he came into contact with were the Romans.
The Romans had the god "PAN" all over the place.
They had other gods, too, most of whom they stole from the Greeks.
Have you ever seen the god PAN? He's VILE!
I've seen plenty of artistic depictions of him, but no, I've never seen the actual Pan. If I ever do, I'll let him know that you have such a high opinion of him.
I never saw those gods till I went to Greece.
Really? You never studied "The Odyssey" or any other Greek myths? Did you live under a rock?
I went into a store in Athens to purchase a scarf, when my eyes fell on this small statue of PAN!!! I was in SHOCK!!!!!!!!!! My Jaw dropped to the floor!!!!!!! My husband began laughing at me.......of course he's more educated than I and knew about this.....but he was laughing at my response. lol.
I'd laugh, too. And I bet the rest of Athens would. It's a statue, for crying out loud.
I don't know how to say this to those who have never seen the god PAN.......but .........if you haven't seen that statue........and someday you do........... your JAW WILL DROP TO THE FLOOR TOO!
I've seen many statues of Pan. Never once has my jaw dropped to the floor.
It's about fertility.........and I GUESS THEY WANTED TO BE REAL FERTILE.......if you get my meaning? I mean REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL FERTILE!
Yes, I understand, because your redundant ellipses and frantic compulsion to press the caps-lock key are just so subtle. Pan was a fertility god. He was also vulgar, lustful, funny, mischievous, and wild at times. Of course, heaven forbid anyone have a sense of humor or have fun with life.
Anyway, I told the store manager that I was offended by that thing and because of that I wouldn't buy anything at her store.
Thus proving that the "Ugly American" stereotype is still applicable today. Congratulations for embarrassing the rest of your fellow countrymen.
And then she laughed....because what works in USA does not work there! You can't threaten them with that stuff. That's been going on since the days of Jesus there and to this day, they are still selling those gods....believe it or not!
Greeks don't worship Pan anymore, dimwit. It was probably there as a souvenir. Most of us are Orthodox Christians. But, I suppose, in your eyes, that would be tantamount to paganism.
But Jesus said, be in the world but not of the world. Be NOT LIKE THEM. Be the Salt, be the Light of the world. So that's what we're supposed to do.
Really? How did you "enlighten" the store manager, pray tell? Did you enlighten her to the fact that you're a culturally insensitive, ethnocentric moron?
I am not sure if I was salt or light when my jaw dropped.......but .........oh well....I tried"
No, you were a clueless idiot when your jaw dropped. You should be lucky that you didn't notice any of the raunchy playing cards that are frequently sold in some shops, which feature scantily clad bikini models, nude models, and depictions of sex in Greek pottery. Forget about your jaw, you'd probably have a heart attack right then and there.
