Why are some in love with Roman wolves in sheep's clothing, whom both the Bible and history testify against as whitewashed paganism, counterfeit Christianity? It's really not all that funny anymore. And it seems this idiot also hates Protestants just as much. I wonder if this person knows that the Eastern Orthodox Church even exists? Most people seem to be unaware of their existence; that's probably a good thing.
Jesus was a carpenter, but my reading of the bible reveals no "building" of any church.
Unless, of course, you're speaking metaphorically, which makes you a heretic, since, by your world view, the bible is literally true.

I'm going to repeat something I've said before: yes, the current hierarchy of the RCC is reprehensible for the way they covered up hundreds of years of priest sex abuse, and for the way they continue to try to put a lid on dissent in a world where dissent can always find a way to the light. (And yes, I do say hundreds, or have you never read Voltaire?) But you know what? Apart from the loonies like Pat Buchanan and the fundamentalists like Opus Dei, most rank-and-file Catholics are genuinely good people. You can walk into any church in the world and no one will submit you to the third degree for being an out-of-towner, and most all of them will even let you share the coffee and donuts after Mass. Most priests, however myopic their training, are genuinely good people who take their role as community leaders seriously. The hierarchy in Rome is so divorced from the real world that when they crack the whip, as often as not parishoners (at least in Westernized countries) just go about their business. And the Catholic Church cares a great deal about service, and while they don't disregard the evangelism aspect and do get hung up on some ethical issues that outsiders consider spurious, they aren't going to shovel a Bible in your hands before they give you a bowl of soup or put a cast on your broken leg.
How many sola fides-teaching Protestant fundamentalist churches give a flying fuck about any of that?

But yeah... most lay Catholics are relatively nice people, who couldn't give a damn what religion (or non-religion) you happen to be. Most of us don't worship the Pope and agree with every miniscule pronouncement of the Magesterium. About 97% of Catholic women use, or have used, some form of modern birth control. Hell, Catholics even have abortions.
Of course, this doesn't dismiss the fact that conservative and ultramontaine Catholics have a large part in the anti-abortion/contraception movements. But fundies in any religion make me want to stab myself in the face.

Right. As it happens, I was taught in a catholic high school, by Salesian friars (among others) and only one of them ever tried to get us into catholicism (a woman, actually, not a friar.) Heck, they even taught us about other religions and the scientific speculated origins of the universe and life (evolution was only barely mentioned, as I don't believe it's a disputed concept around here, so we covered that in biology class.)
Anyway, this to say I have nothing against catholics.
Further more I have to admit the only decent Christian TV, and I do use the term decent loosely, is the catholic mass program. No gimmicks, no cash rake ins, no friggin miracles. Just a prayer or two, and a guy reciting in sign language in a bubble, then a hymn or two, then they eat crackers and drink wine, then roll credits. Now thats about as good as christian tv'll get.
