Quote# 31662

Genesis is literal. It is not only literal in context, but its language is scientific, within the scope of the original Hebrew. Sorry, but you really don't have a grasp of the reality of God's word. Yes, I just called into question your scholarship, which is sorely lacking.

Sorry, can you speak Hebrew?, and how do you call scientific, in whatever language, a speaking snake?

The language of Genesis, whether in English or in Hebrew, is bullshit.
There is no science anywhere to be found anywhere in the Bible, and wishing won't make it so.
Your scholarship, whatever you think the word to mean, is non-existent.

Once again I have a hard time even looking at the threads to gain context. The avatars on Foru.ms make me angry for some reason. I want to rip their little heads off.
It's always amusing when they turn on their own isn't it?

literal in context
Uh, whut?
its language is scientific
Impressive, seeing as scientific language didn't exist at the time. And, y'know, all those bits that are clearly not scientific (magic fruit, talking snakes, and whatnot).
within the scope of the original Hebrew
Citation? Or a demonstration that you are an ancient Hebrew scholar.
you really don't have a grasp of the reality of God's word
Assuming "God's word" = "Bible", then actually I have a perfectly good grasp of its reality: I even own one or two myself. And have read it, unlike many of your ilk. I also have a reasonable grasp of other things: science, literary styles and genres, history, even standard Biblical scholarship. Oh, and they all say: u fail.
I just called into question your scholarship
Yeah, b/c it's seriously bad when people make bs claims with no citations to back them up, huh?

"Scientific language" does not a science make. Lots of New Agers use scientific language to describe that which is utter bullshit, and in any case what we consider "scientific language" is an artifact of the absorption of vast amounts of Latin, Greek, and Arabic terminology into English. None of it confers any special status on what it discusses; just ask Alan Sokal. He embarrassed an entire field of literary theory by calling them out on their misuse of scientific language.
