[getting all worked up about the Pullman's movie, the entire thread is a freaking gold mine...this board is spin-off of Rapture Ready]

Just watched the trailer...I don't think that this movie will flop, it will be the next Lord of the Rings, and it is a trilogy. Much prayer will be needed to keep children from going to this movie.

and flagellation, don't forget flagellation as an adjunct to prayer. Also a bit of self-crucfixion just to tget the big man's attention. And maybe burnt offerings - that always worked in the OT.

MysticalChicken

Whenever I'm wondering whether I want to see a movie, all I have to do is ask "do fundies hate it?" If the answer is yes, then I'll most likely go see it.

Gawd forbid that you expose your children to other worldviews and sit down with them and have a rational discussion about the issues raised.... (Head-desk)...

Well, I personally doubt it will do that well at the theater, but I'm going to see it anyway because I like film and literature, especially if it gets your panties in a twist.

Mister Spak

The children are coming! Full power to prayer shields!

MK

Right.

Much prayer will be needed because God apparently is completely unaware of the film and won't be able to stop it unless enough people shout and raise a stink about it. Right, fundies?

Also a bit of self-crucfixion just to tget the big man's attention.

Self crucifixion is no good - no matter how hard you try, you just can't get that last nail in.

you really think the Golden Compass will be as big as LotR?
You're nuts!

Don't worry, they know, better than you that it's FICTION.

I hope so-I enjoyed the book immensely.

Great gimmick to get more people in the theater. Use fundies for advertising, negative or positive. It always works.

Doing religiously controversial movies is the best publicity you'll ever get.

Prayer's too iffy. Divert the rugbiters' attention. Provide them with plenty of pornography.

Heyoka

Why not just bribe them with cash? Works better than prayer.

What is it that fundies fear so much about "Golden Compass," anyway?

To above:
Well, the book series is very critical of organized religion, maybe especially Christianity, and all humans have a personal "Demon" which essentially is a part of that persons soul made into a creature of some sort. One of the main points in the first book is about how the churchlike "Authority" tries to sever the tie between human and deamon, thus preventing the child from going through puberty.

Of course, the criticism is toned down a little in the movies, but it's still plenty to upset fundies.
