Quote# 31717

Do you think the Inquisitors were born again believers or just a religious cult?
You are under the assumption, as many are, that the Inquisitions were performed by God's true church, which is why some try to excuse it as 'not being so bad', but in actuality, a satanic counterfeit church mirroring true Christianity conducted the horrors of the Inquisition.

Mister Spak

It's the Salem witch trials that were conducted by true christians, not the inquisition.

Is there an award for 'Pulling facts out of your ass?'

Yes, Buzzardhut, we all know that "God's true church" is whichever one you belong to. You, of course, are free from error, unlike those who conducted the Inquisition.

Buzz-brains "true church" didn't even exist then.

Doctor Whom

Then stop counting the satanic counterfeit churches when you argue that any given country is a Christian nation.

Altair

because if they seem bad, they're not really christian.

And my favourite piece of fundamentalism, HISTORICAL REVISION(let's begin by the fact that the stupid "born-again" concept didn't exist at the time)

Yeah, if the Real Christians had been in charge, there would have been no heretics left alive!

Don't be stupid, Pat Robertson wasn't alive back then!

By "God's true church", Buzzardhut means "independent fundamentalist Baptists". They have this self-invented fantasy, called "Baptist successionism" that claims the Baptist church was established by Jesus and that the Catholic Church and its offshoots, the Protestants, are false usurpers of the "true church" (namely, their own). Needless to say, they claim they can't provide the details because all the other evil churches destroyed the records.

The Office of The Inquisition still exists under the title of Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.

Call it what you want...they're Christians and your god did nothing to stop them.

a satanic counterfeit church mirroring true Christianity conducted the horrors of the Inquisition.
Oh like the Westboro Baptists.

Being a "born again believer" and being a member of a religious cult are not mutually exclusive.

To any fundie, 'satanic counterfeit church' = 'that other lot down the street'.

11/29/2007 1:54:42 PM

Old Viking

This can't be right. The Pope just said you guys aren't truly a church.

I'm surprised you fundies don't regard the inquisitor-general as some sorta divine hero. The mind set is remarkably similar.

Torquemada

The Pope would like to have a word with you.

Jezebel's Evil Sister

I'm pretty sure the inquisitors were not "born again" believers because that crap wasn't made up until the 19th century. They most assuredly were christians, however.
