Is this a child protector in the same way burning down a village saves it?
On another note my parents used to "train" me as a young kid. Even to this day I instinctively flinch anytime they make a sudden movement, even if it's not directed at me.

Beating a child is still beating a child, and no matter what you call it, its still wrong.

"He that spares the rod (yes, I said ROD) hates his son but he that LOVES HIM IS CAREFUL TO CHASTEN HIM!"
Yes, chasten, not beat the holy hell out of him.
"Do you want to skip the "terrible twos"? Of course you do, How about "Teenage-Rebellion"? Well I Guess Right?"
Sure, go ahead and skip two psychologically important developmental stages. See what kind of kid you end up with. Better get your rod back out, you're going to need it.
"NO! IF YOU DON'T YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR KIDS TAKEN AWAY NOT IF YOU CHASTEN THEM (biblically speaking) Now there is a series of books that can help you do just that! Praise GOD"
So, rather than reading up on child psychology and development to be prepared for the "terrible two's" and the teenage rebellion phases you think it's better to beat the kid? And if the parent doesn't want to skip those phases their kid should be taken away from them? You're a strange one, aren't you?
"I agree on two points that those who criticize me will say
1) Children need love NOT emotional scars
2) NEVER WHIP IN ANGER NEVER NEVER NEVER! (get the picture?)"
Point 1: Agreed.
Point 2: Did you really just say "whip"? I believe you should be incarcerated. Quickly.
"But chastening them IS NOT WHIPING IT IS TRAINING"
I hope someone "chastises" you with a baseball bat.
"P.S. any one who buys into the secular culture in saying that proverbs is wrong as I quoted above, Should have their kids taken away and be put in jail"
Someone's likely to end up in jail but I doubt it'll be anyone but you.

Yeah, me too. I'm still constantly laughed at for being so paranoid.

If you have to hit to dicipline, you have failed as a parent.
Also, it's pretty sick to refer to such things as 'training', you know that?
Osiris: I as well, and I know myself to be one of many.

Big Chicken Dinner
When I was a strapping young lad, my father would come home from church and the first thing he would do is make sure I did my chores correctly. Most of the time, I might have missed a patch while cutting the grass, or missed a speck of dirt while washing the car...
My father, being the loving christian that he was, would then find his axe handle. That was the closest thing to a biblical "rod" that we had lying around the house. He would then yank me by the hair and pull me outside. He'd throw me to the ground and start wailing on me with that axe handle. He'd usually get me about 75-100 times with that old ax handle.
Sure, he broke a few bones and the school was always concerned about all the bruises and that I always seemed injured, but those fruitcake liberals don't understand much about God's laws.
In the end, even though I have some permanent scarring and walk with a limp because of the beatings, I will always be grateful for the christian love that was in my house growing up. I can't imagine the pain of not growing up in a household that was obedient to God's laws.

It's based on whipping, so it feels like whipping, but it's not! SWEET & CHASTEN!
On another note, it's fairly correct, but has freaking nothing to do with the Bible.

Child abuse for Jeebus!
"any one who buys into the secular culture in saying that proverbs is wrong as I quoted above, Should have their kids taken away and be put in jail"
Yep, throwing the kids in jail is really the best course of action.
Edit: Damn I'm glad Big Chicken Dinner is a troll, or poe or whatever they are.

[Seethe, seethe] First the liberals take prayer in school, then Creationism, then our right to rape our wives silly, and now they're after the proverbs?!
Oh, he means the Bible section. Honestly didn't get that until I wrote the above:/.
But chastening them IS NOT WHIPING IT IS TRAINING
Training for what? Being beaten by abusive husbands?

uhg I'm not sure what makes me more sick the review or that "No Greater Joy, Volume Two" implies there are at least two books advocating child abuse out there.

Classic Fundie. Child abuse in Jesus' Name! Break out the stones, according to Deuteronomy, those bratty kids should be stoned for disobedience.

A swift kick up the backside or a clip on the ear is one thing, but taking a whip or rod to a kid is another.

I hate it when people talk about training a child the way one does a dog or a horse. That's really sickening. It shows what people who prescribe to the "Spare the rod, spoil the child" nonsense really think of children, theirs and otherwise.

children should be seen and not heard. Who do you think you are telling your elders and betters what is and is not right? If I were to follow your prescription I'd beat you until you couldn't sit down.
But I'm actually opposed to child beating, or treating them as property or second class.
