How blind, dark and evil you really are. Christians are the people who fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today, NOT ATHEISTS. It was a Baptist preacher standing at the side of Maddison insisting on the Bill of Rights, NOT ATHEISTS. And if, God forbid, we ever had to fight for our freedoms again, it would be an overwhelming majority of Christians who would be fighting and dying for our freedoms AGAIN.
I get so sick and tired of atheists and others acting as if it were them who is responsible for our freedoms when it was about 99% Christians who fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today, NOT AHTEISTS OR ANYONE ELSE. This country was also built and ran by a population of about 99% Christians for a very long, long time. Now that there are a small percentage of atheists in this country today, it is beginning to go downhill big time. Atheists cannot take credit for this country while it was great, but they certainly can take credit for the way it's going downhill now.

At the time of the Revolutionary War, only about 20% of American colonists went to church regularly. Religious observance did not start to rise until the revival movements of the early 19th century.
The people who died fighting for independence and worked to found a new country were not Christians, at least not as you probably define the word.
"It was a Baptist preacher standing at the side of Maddison insisting on the Bill of Rights,"
Because that preacher was afraid the Episcopalians would turn the country into an Episcopalian theocracy and the Baptists would be screwed. Now it's the Baptists trying to turn America into a theocracy and screw everyone else. The first amendment was written to protect America from you.
As much as you wish the reality to be different, the struggles this country has endured and the victories it has won have been political and social. We didn't fight the British Empire because they were of a different faith; we didn't have the Civil War because one side was Buddhist and the other Muslim; the Civil Rights Movement was not about Baptists and Methodists having a spat; we didn't fight Japan in WW2 because they were Buddhists (much as you would like to believe that).
Get over yourself and learn some history, idiot.
And it's freedom from religion, by the way. Actually, the Constitution prevents you fundies from enforcing your misguided beliefs on the rest of the nation.
Go learn something about the history of this country. Don't let other people dictate your thinking. That was one of the things the citizens of this country fought and died for.
"Freedom for all! Except you. And you. Oh, and you! Especially not you!"
more like freedom for ME, amirite?
General Washington was a Freemason. Gen Nathaniel Greene (who was the only other commander who served through the whole war) was a lapsed Quaker.
Granted, there were some Christians in the mix, but the leaders and motivators were indifferent to the individual expression of religion, and totally opposed to religion as a political stakeholder.
I get so sick and tired of ignorami making extravagant (and belligerent) claims based upon total conjecture. "About 99%" is pure Bullshit. Shame on you.
Consider this: With a church-afflicted government instead of a secular humanist state, we would be a feudal society, and slavery would exist across the board.
You might want this, F4A. But you couldn't count on being anything other than a slave.
How blind, dark and evil you really are. Right-handed people are the people who fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today, NOT LEFT-handed people. It was a right-handed person standing at the side of Maddison insisting on the Bill of Rights, NOT LEFT-handed people. And if, God forbid, we ever had to fight for our freedoms again, it would be an overwhelming majority of right-handed people who would be fighting and dying for our freedoms AGAIN.
(makes about as much sense ...)
So, you contend that no atheists have fought nor died for our freedoms? What a load.
At the time of the revolution, only about 7% of the population were members of churches.
"This country was also built and ran by a population of about 99% Christians for a very long, long time."
That's why slavery lasted so long, women were considered second class citizens and lets not forget the genocidal practices the christians used in dealing with native americans ect..ect..ect...

... which led to the Mormons, the Shakers, and the Millerites.
But Fundies don't like to talk about those Christians....
Please tell me where you got this information from. If you say David Barton, I will laugh at you, as he is a hack who has been called out on his bullshit by real historians.
Most of the Founding Fathers were Deists or Unitarians, who you probably don't consider Christian. And if you pull out the Great Awakening as proof that this is a Christian nation, I'll laugh even harder at you, because the ministers involved actually wanted the separation of church and state.
I get so sick and tired of fundies lying about the history of this country when they haven't taken the time to read a single history book(Barton's fake quotations books are NOT HISTORY, they are fraud).PS Our current born-again Presidunce has done more to send this country downhill than any thousand atheists alive.
Your constitution and bill of rights are both based on proclamations from European countries, y'know, the ones that threw off church and church/royalty rule.
Again that little gem of reality about Madisson proves you have somewhat looked into it and KNOW YOU"RE LYING. This ridiculous notion that most Americans of 300 years ago were Christians or that those in high office were is Christian Propaganda and has no bearing on the reality.
Even you know if America was formed on Christianity most of those rights would never have been realized.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
