I hold no brief for bin Laden and his crew, but I would prefer to have him brought to trial before the world so that people could actually see the process and know that justice was being done to him and his terrorists.

Algiers makes that even more imperative.

What punishment is something I leave to the court. For personal preference, though, I would like it to be something very lingering and very painful and very slow. This is out of character for me, but no mercy was shown on 9/11. None should be shown to the perpetrators.

Except that to do this would reduce someone (me) to the level of the killers. So let the court ruling be enough. And please, no showing it on TV.
