[Mrs. W says more crazy shit about college]
Even in such fields as the medical field, I believe we would be a lot better off with an apprentice system. My midwife got her qualifications from an apprenticeship, not a college. Apprenticeships are more real life and college is indoctrination of what the state wants you to know. The state wants doctors to push vaccines and drugs, when a lot of the time there is no need for that. But that's what they "teach" people going into the medical field, and thus those people are deceived thinking that people need antibiotics and vaccinations, and people who see doctors are deceived into it because apparently since the doctor has been to college he "knows what he is doing".

This is fully in accord with Mother Theresa's practices. Her 'patients' and staff got no medical care, only palliative measures. Of course, when she got sick herself, she had herself flown to a Swiss private clinic by private jet for treatment...
SO what's the problem here? this must be another Mother Theresa!
Hi there Mrs W, are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin....
Medicine is a complex and emerging field. There is a lot to learn, much more so than you can from an "apprenticeship". It takes years of concentrated study.
Then...guess what? NOW they do their apprenticeship! In 2007 we call these internships, you may have heard reference to it on the tele (assuming your pastor lets you have one).
Well, as a happy practitioner of home dentistry and prostate exams, I will admit there is a "learning curve" - But, things are progressing nicely. I have a "killer" chemotherapy mix from some belladonna out of my backyard for example.
Surgery is getting easier, too, thanks to an endless supply of the neighbours' pets on which I can hone my medical skills. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a blight in our neighbourhood - What with all the missing pet posters on every lightpole within a two-mile radius.
Sincerely yours,
Domestically Doctoring in DC
Yeah, kids in premed in college get indoctrinated with all kinds of propaganda like.. oh... anatomy, physiology, microbiology, organic chemistry, cell biology.
How could THAT stuff ever help a doctor
This idiot is unable to understand that the midwife is just an assistant of the doctor, the guy who goes to college and has helped to reduce death by labour by more than 80% in the last 100 years?. It sticks out a mile that she is an ignorant who never studied anything. And sounds funny, that she's saying all this in a computer.
apprenticeships teach practical skills
apprenticeships need the theoretical training
apprentices are not trained to think theoretically (ie abstract problem solving) - not that they can't, it's just not their modus operandi.
It works well for some jobs, but lets not let narrowmindedness interfere.
My g'mother was a midwife, and I would have put her against any doctor in certain areas of expertise, but not alwasys
"The state wants doctors to push vaccines and drugs, when a lot of the time there is no need for that."
Yeah, like when those 'doctors' just insisted that everyone get vaccinated for smallpox. Talk about needless! I mean, when was the last time anyone caught smallpox around here?!
Nope, if I get a brain tumor I want someone who learnt neurosurgery through good ol' fashioned trial and error , instead of at some fancy-pants medical school.
Of course, I'd rather the trial - and especially the error - happened to someone else, but hey, a really crap survival rate is more 'real world'!
Thanks. But I'll stick to licensed doctors.
Unlike fundies that will will pray, drink blood, bang gongs and howl to the sun god.
I said that just to annoy you.
No joke today, this kind of speech is first degree attempted homicide. The same way preaching abstinence only in Africa is attempted genocide.
This whole apprentice system she's preaching makes it sound like that's NOT what happens in college. My GE-100 (General Engineering) professor IS an electrical engineer (who happened to graduate from the college he teaches at). I believe he holds a master's degree.
I only agree with one point in Mrs. W's entire rant: That practitioners of medical science should have practical experience backing up their extensive training. That's why I like the idea of internships. Apprenticeships are just... old fashioned, and inefficient though.
and DinDC: Dentistry AND Prostate exams? Not at... not at the same time, I hope...
:P
Mrs. W, you must keep any thoughts you have to holy thoughts such as what you can do on your knees for your pastor or what floral pattern should I use to cover my ye olde KJV Bable and desist from commenting on mens business. Shame on you, you who should know better.
@Ponder:
"and DinDC: Dentistry AND Prostate exams? Not at... not at the same time, I hope..."
If, in my home-spun medical opinion, such examinations are required, then YES!
You've never had an infection Mrs. W, wow. Wait! You might just be a total idiot.
Students of medicine aren't deceived into anything, they see the results.
Even in such fields as the medical field, I believe we would be a lot better off with an apprentice system.
Even if you were a trained medical professional, I'd still take anything you had to say with a pinch of salt.
Let's make a deal. If you have a more or less serious illness, ask for a doctor whose only qualification is an "apprenticeship", or none at all. Let's see what happens. That you're a total ignorant and don't have a degree, doesn't mean that it's useless. Sour grapes I say.
Oh noes! People are being taught from a sum of knowledge from many other people, instead of the knowledge passed on by one person! Everyone gets the same tried and true knowledge instead of random, possibly faulty, information! What will we ever do?!?!?!!?
Internships. You might watch one of those hospital-based TV series for a more or less accurate look at how physicians teach and learn.
Credentialing. This is the process that exposes the fraudsters who call themselves "Doctor".
Clinical trials. Admittedly, some medications which have deleterious side effects, have been approved for use anyway. This constitutes a serious form of fraud.
She REPRODUCED ??

As someone whose life has been saved by modern medicine at least twice, this anti-vaccination bullshit really bothers me. Here's what mandatory vaccination does:

Thanks to Maurice Hilleman's skill at biochemistry and a massive vaccination effort, the number of cases of measles has dropped by more than three orders of magnitude in the last fifty years. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been saved . I could go on for a while about the horrors of smallpox, polio, mumps, rubella, pertussis, typhoid, diphtheria, and pandemic flu, and the pain of shingles, but it is simpler to give the bottom line:
Your Argument Is Invalid
