"It was sad to see that the producers and writers would target the young kids with New Age, anti Christian themes. It was disappointing to see the Church (the Magisterium) portrayed as such a sinister and evil lot. The spirit counter-parts, the daemons, and the reference to them being locked into a form only when the child reaches accountability reaks of Spiritual child molestation. The imagination and creativity of chronicological children can flourish well into adulthood given an environment of nurturing and encouragement. The dark side of this movie reveals the antithesis of the type of care kids need. Shame on me for going and shame on the writers, directors and producers for blind-siding kids with this narrow minded, stifling model."

"Spiritual child molestation."
You would make a great tabloid headline writer.
"chronicological children"
Eh?!?
"The imagination and creativity of chronicological children can flourish well into adulthood given an environment of nurturing and encouragement."
Obviously. For example, look at your childish imagination.
"Shame on me for going and shame on the writers, directors and producers for blind-siding kids with this narrow minded, stifling model."
Shame on you for recommending that kids be blind-sided with narrowminded, stifling, fundamentalism. You really think movies like this damage kids more than your evil nihilistic cult?
"chronicological children"
Oh, STFU and get an education, then try to talk with the grown ups.
This was the best movie ever.
I'm so scared what this worlds going to look like in about 50 years though, with this fundie cancer on the rise...
"Shame on me for going..."
Yup. Considering that every church group everywhere told you that this is an evil atheistic film that should be avoided by righteous folk such as yourself, you probably shouldn't have paid for a ticket and contributed to the film's success. What are you? Stupid?
Mr. Turquoise
P.S. I don't think it's out in Japan yet...so I'll just have to be patient :(
I saw Golden Compass, but to make sure I didn't give any money to the godless theater which shows it I snuck in through the back. I was apalled at the amount of evil in that movie, and it makes CHRISTIANS cry! There were demons and witches and all manner of things that should have been KILLED in the real world. EVERYTHING in that movie is evil and sinful! GOOD Christians need to stay away from that movie! IN the movie, THE WORLD is full of references to evil and sin and evry single person who worked on that movie is headed for helll!!!!!!
Say it with me, now:
FICTION IS NOT REAL.
I'm sure you felt the exact same way about the Chronicles of Narnia, right? Oh, no, I forgot, it doesn't work the same way when it's stuff you agree with, does it?
Yeah, how dare Pullman display the church as evil! I mean, they only had the inquisition, slaughtered thousands of native Central and South Americans who wouldn't convert, try to warp the minds of everyone on the planet, etc. etc.
But remember...they are so keen to tell you that they 'love' you!
"And you forgot the most important detail, It's fucking fiction. "
"Say it with me, now:
FICTION IS NOT REAL."
why are we surprised
they don't understand "not real"
because Fiction = god
It's strange to hear all the uproar about The Golden Compass.
Not once did I hear an atheist talk about protesting The Chronicles of Narnia that I know of.
"Spiritual child molestation", what the fuck does that actually mean?
Mister Spak: To fundies, every year brings This Year's Hottest New Attack on Our Faith. Before The Golden Compass, it was The Da Vinci Code, and before that is was Harry Potter, and before that it was Pokemon, and before that it was Magic: The Gathering, and before that it was Dungeons and Dragons, and before that it was rock music...
It's also telling that This Year's Hottest New Attack on Our Faith is almost always a work of fiction. It's almost like fundies have a problem distinguishing between works of fiction and reality, or something. :)
Two things about this commment really bother me. One, it was posted on a fan review site, which is not the appropriate place for it. You're not talking about the quality of the movie, you're talking about whether or not it agrees with your way of seeing the world, and saying the quality of the movie was poor and giving it one star just because you don't agree with it is unfair. It's like the people who one-star Harry Potter without reading it because OMG WITCHCRAFT SATANISM!
Second, I have no idea how a movie can be "narrow minded." The movie rejects any ideas other than it's own? Huh? I do, however, see that you're rather narrow minded, establishing you as a projecting hypocrite in addition to a stupid fundie.
@ Napoleon - Then why were the books marketed towards kids?
And that inflexibility of imagination thing... where'd that come from? I can kind of see it, but wow, is that a stretch.
Oddly enough Rubyfruit Pullman talks about Narnia quite a bit, he despises C.S. Lewis if I remember correctly. Calls him racist, misogynist, etc. So there's one athiest who does!
Okay, what the Hell is "spiritual child molestation" and "chronological children?" Using big words doesn't make you smarter, Jet.
Furthermore, what is with this "expose them while they're young" mentality you Fundies have? Oh, sure, we can do it with Christianity. It's so true and powerful. But when we do it with teh evil satanism, which is false and weak, kids apparently ignore the fact that it's fiction, and decide to join a satanic cult.
In short: Stick to your convictions or shut up!
Honestly, it's kind of cute the way fundies see an organization representing blind, fascist conformity and automatically assume it's a knock on them. Hey, you said it, not me...
Go read the books. All three of them. The god worshiped by the the Magisterium = / = God. It's a false god, who's fooled people into thinking he created them. It makes people persecute each other. It makes them fight over religion, even when they all believe very similar things. It rules by fear.
Dust is God. Dust is divinity itself. The villains are destroying God, not worshiping him.
Sorry, it just bugs me when people utterly fail to understand the books.
I loved the dark materials trilogy, I haven;'t yet seen the movie, but I heard that it was good. How old is the book again?
I love that this person calls the movie 'narrow minded' just because it goes against common belief.
I greatly enjoyed this movie ... so much so, in fact, that I have since seen it a few more times. It is a good story of the kind where good battles evil and in the end good prevails. I'm really ahving trouble understanding how fundies can object to the forces of good winning out when faced with the forces of evil.
Oh, and unlike many other movies depicting the battle between good and evil, this movie contains no referances to skydaddy whatsoever.
It wasn't the best movie in the world, but it did follow the first book pretty close. I'm into steampunk so I took an interest in the movie and the books and I love the books. Having read all three twice now I cant help but lose my temper at these ignorant jackasses who disparage the books because they were written by an athiest but themselves have never read the books. Judgemental and stupid, it's the Christian way.
It sounds like jet_parts missed the fact that is't a book trilogy first and a film later. The producers and writers can't do whatever they want with it, as the author has already created the story, and everyone who has read it will be disapointed if the film veers to far from it.
Why go to the viewing of a film based on a book without checking what the book is about?
It's fiction, for gods' sake, and fantasy to boot. Why be so distraught over a movie?
Confused?
