[And right out of the gate, Christians refer to the Bible, to prove the Bible is right.
Anyone else see the circular reasoning in this?]
And what would you suggest?
If we use the Bible then you call it circular reasoning.
If we say we have revelation you say we are imagining it.
Overall, I find speaking to athiests pretty much a total waste of energy since all you seem to want to do is ask a question so that you can then jump in with your tired criticisms.

I'm no expert, and I'm just throwing this out there, but have you tried actual evidence?
Revelation is part of the Bible and yes, it's a book and you can't prove that a book content is right with the book. Imagine that instead of the Bible, somebody puts the Koran, the Upanishad or Tolstoi's war and peace.

How about admitting that people throughout the ages have made up, borrowed, and incorporated fanciful stories, that people throughout the ages have bought into it with little resistance, and that there's no indication the Bible is any different?
We'll all be able to live happier lives once you start thinking for yourself.
somebody missed the meaning of "circular reasoning". And man, not knowing that Revelation is part of the NT and, therefore, of the Bible, speaks louder than anything else.

Save your energy then, and STFU. Neither "athiests" nor atheists care for your flavor of brainwash. [And all the other religions and non-religions as well]
Sometimes the biggest threat to Fundies isn't people who don't read the Bible, its people who actually DO.
The "all scripture is God breathed" reference was the one that did in my faith in the New Testament as "God's word". Why? How could the person who wrote "all scripture is God breathed" be referring to his own writing and writing that occured after it in the New Testament as scripture? It doesn't make logical sense.
Course the fundy response to that paradox isn't very helpful. It amounts to: "Shutup you atheistic moron THE BIBLE IS THE INERRANT WORD OF GOD DON'T QUESTION IT!"
We continually ask questions because we seek answers, But really we just continually waste our time.
I guess we are stupid for arguing with idiots in the first place.
If we are truly a waste of energy, then why do we have politicians in office trying to force me into their religion? Why am I ostracized because I happen to be homosexual, when the only reasons people have ever given me for their hatred of me are bible quotes? Why are people who do not believe as the majority do marginalized? Why is it that you feel personally threatened when someone points out your beliefs are bullshit, after you have likely just finished judging someone for being different from yourself?
Get a life, asshole! This isn't just about you and your persecutory hallucinations. When what you believe has a direct impact on my life, I have every right to question what you believe. If you can't do anything but give a circular argument a fifth grader would be called down for in any academic subject, then your beliefs aren't worth the paper I use to wipe my ass.
And yet, you would torch the US constitution, remake society into a fundamentalist theocracy and persecute people for "unbiblical" activities that do not harm anyone in any way.
It is not the process by which you came to your conclusions that bothers us: You have the right to your beliefs. However, if you plan to impose a brutal tyranny on us in the name of your god then yeah, we are going to call you on why we should let you do so.
Scientific evidence that cannot be logically denied by anyone, regardless of belief.
Until you come up with that...
I think you mean Valid when you say "tired". The fact that you get the same answer should tell you one thing, you have no solid case for your assertion.
It's a big problem when your ENTIRE case is based on ONLY the Bible stating it is true meaning it's true. Many stories would be true, much fiction states it's true, it's only in the legalize publishing statement or genre context that it's labeled fiction.
Religious tombs are exempt from this process only because you would burn and riot if you weren't given special consideration.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
