Oh, and about being outraged by the pledge: I am extremely conservative, as are the vast majority of people in my area of the Midwest. We listen to Rush Limbaugh, cut taxes, and we all voted for President Bush. This action is outrageous, and I can't imagine the U.S. without the pledge. You British people don't know what you're missing out on. And secondly, if it Unconstitutional to have the words, then it is Unconstitutional to take them out. Atheism is a form of religion, and I quite honestly believe that if you people have a problem with the words "Under God," then you can go form your own private schools where you can say whatever you want. Or, even better. Home school your children. We Christians do. But whatever you choose, leave us and the way we raise our children alone. Not all of us can afford to send our kids to private schools. Believe me, if we could, we would. So, we must do with the absolutely atrocious Public Schools, and we have to deal with you. But whatever you do, don't impose your beliefs on us. The country would be better off without you.

HA HA! When I read this, I read it as, "We listen to Rush Limbaugh, cut taxes, and we all voted for President Bush, this action is outrageous."
Wait, I think I just fixed it...
I'm getting a big "We're teh majority so we can opress j00!11!!!" vibe from superpawn here.
"So, we must do with the absolutely atrocious Public Schools, and we have to deal with you"
Oh, believe me, we know the feeling.
"But whatever you do, don't impose your beliefs on us."
..ha...ha? Oh, the hypocrisy is killing me inside.
The rest is kind of boring and not worth replying to.

As one who lives in the Midwest let me apologize for this idiot.
And no, the vast majority are not like this guy. Most of us are actually quite pleasant and sane.
AMEN BRO. Super! Preach it, brother! I especially like what you say about leaving us and the way we raise our kids alone! I have written some very timely books and articles about how to raise children. These articles help will help you raise Godly boys who will become Godly men, just like my son David Hyles, whom I must say, I am very proud of! I also teach you how to raise your boys so as to prevent them from becoming afflicted with gayness.
I'm certian if the pledge stated "under Buddah" you'd be offended.
If you can't take the medication, don't dish it out.
"We listen to Rush Limbaugh, cut taxes, and we all voted for President Bush."
These actions are outrageous, and I can't understand how you could possibly be from the same version of reality as me.
oh wait...
Except that the words have only been in there what, 55 years?
They haven't been there for most of the pledge's history, dumbass.
Grow up.
"And secondly, if it Unconstitutional to have the words, then it is Unconstitutional to take them out."
Well, I'm convinced. In other news, if it's against the law to kill someone, it's also against the law not to kill someone.
"But whatever you choose, leave us and the way we raise our children alone."
Umm... yeah. About that part. If I have to leave you and the way you raise your children alone, please be kind enough to leave me and the way I raise my children alone.
Or go homeschool your children.
Since United States is one of the most violent countries in the world, nobody cares a danm about your "pledge". And if it's inconstitutional, it's inconstitutional. Even if atheism were a religion and taking those words didn't hurt any religion(and it doesn't), they have rights too. Freedom of religion doesn't mean freedom to IMPOSE my religion.
it's interesting how the religious/patriot end of the market is always telling people they don't agree with to leave. Have they any idea what the impact of that would be?! Putting aside all the inventions etc of atheists, there are taxes, services, industry that depend on the "ungodly".
BTW, most mature nations don't need a pledge of allegiance - it is just assumed as part of one's birthright. Across Europe one sees the memorials to the war dead - so it must "work"
I feel bad for public schools -- they always get the brunt of the attack. Education is what you make of it; if you want to learn, you'll learn. If you don't want to learn, then you won't. In your case, your poor children won't get an education, regardless of what kind of school they attend, because you're too busy brainwashing them and not allowing them to explore various avenues of life.
The funny thing is, taking the words "under God" out of the pledge don't necessarily mean that your God can't be important to you. It just means that those words aren't going to be in the pledge.
It's not like anyone is trying to make the pledge say "one nation under the Flying Spaghetti Monster" or "one nation under absolutely no God at all."
But the "don't impose your beliefs on us" at the end makes me REALLY hope that this is a poe. I know I'm wrong, though...
I can't imagine the U.S. without the pledge.
The US got along without the pledge for well over a century. That was before Roosevelt created the social safety net, too. I thought you guys loved that period.
The country would be better off without you.
Okay, we'll take the scientists, engineers, and a major portion of college-educated people and you can see how well you get along then.
we all voted for President Bush.
Mister Big Government? Mister Spy on the Citizens? You think he's conservative?
If you're so extremely conservative, what are you doing posting under a fictional character's name on a Star Wars chat forum? You do know that "Revenge of the Sith" was one big jab at Bush (however clumsy and heavy-handed it was), right? You do realize that the original Star Wars story deals with REBELLION against an established and legitimate government?
"Atheism is a form of religion"
This is the crux of your problem. Get a kindly, smart person to help you to look up the word "atheist" in a good dictionary.
Rush Limbaugh listening, Bush voting, welfare for the rich types are stupid nose-led sheep anyway. If they had any brain they would read a dictionary, a history book, and some legitimate news sources. No point in trying to discuss facts with propagandized lemmings like these buffoons.
"And secondly, if it Unconstitutional to have the words, then it is Unconstitutional to take them out.
o_0
Do you have ANY idea how stupid that assertion is? That's like saying that if you've turned the wrong way onto a one-way street, it would be illegal to turn around and go in the correct direction. You're either a poe or a freaking idiot.
"Atheism is a form of religion...."
Make that either a poe or a freaking idiot parrot. No, scratch that -- parrots are WAY more intelligent. Even dead ones.

Pot, meet kettle.
The original pledge read "I pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" It was written by a minister and his family says he would roll in his grave if he knew his work had been altered
,,,,,,if you people have a problem with the words "Under God," then you can go form your own private schools,,,,Home school your children,,,,,,leave us and the way we raise our children alone,,,,,,The country would be better off without you
And then,,,,
don't impose your beliefs on us.
Contradiction much?
"And secondly, if it Unconstitutional to have the words, then it is Unconstitutional to take them out."
This is, without a doubt, the most inconceivably nonsensial phrase my mind has ever parsed. I particularly love his capitalisation of 'unconstitutional', just to double the fun. Brilliant.
So you voted for Bush, cut taxes on the rich, and now you can't afford to send your kids to school. Am I missing the beneficial part of this ?

Maybe stunned. Your Norewegian Blue stuns easily. Pinin' for the fjords and all.
"I am extremely conservative, as are the vast majority of people in my area of the Midwest."
Speak for yourself!
"But whatever you do, don't impose your beliefs on us."
You first.
"We listen to Rush Limbaugh"
And that's where I quit reading.
You admit to being brain dead shit.
Confused?
