Why is that you assholes don't give a shit about something until it's being removed? You didn't care enough to put a 10 Commandments statue in front of Moore's courthouse, but when they were being removed, suddenly there's blasphemy afoot.

You usually put in additional words in the Pledge of Allegiance when imposing a religion on people. Something in the order of "under god."
Try another argument. This one is silly.
Ah yes, the ever popular "You're a bigot for not letting us have preferential treatment over everybody else" ploy.

How about everybody who wants to say "Under God" say it, and everyone who doesn't want to, not say it? It sounds like less trouble than actually removing it, and will probably anger less people.
Humanism. That is the implicit common denominator among all religions and philosophies, not-believing included.
"God" is an overly ambiguous generic term. I never liked it.
So, as a Republic we are about as "under God" as we are "indivisible". Don't get me started. We would have been better served by discarding the Pledge along with the loyalty oaths.

Atheism is a religious belief, and is therefore a religion.
Atheism is a religion like not killing someone is murder.
First the Pledge was written and survived the first 62 years of it's existence without "Under God", so they are taking out words added to appease people like you and IMPOSE your religion on others. Read a history book. Atheism is a religious un-belief(NO GODS), has no formal rites, or commonly held dogma, therefore it does not fulfill any requirements for a religion. Get a dictionary. And quit lying.
Great! I think I'll go establish the First Church of Atheism downtown here and get tax-exempt status for my church. Then, according to my non-existent atheist scriptures, all church-members will be ordained ministers of atheism. And we'll go out as missionaries to spread the good news of nothing, and suck out tax-dollars to conduct our work. We'll hand out condoms and abortion pills and kill kittens, all on the US taxpayers' dollar! Then we'll go build some private atheist schools, and we'll siphon off even more tax-dollars for our faith-based activities.

All the while, we'll be lobbying Congress to remove all tax-exempt benefits from Christian churches and organizations, since Christianity is not a religion.
Someone's got atheism and secularism confused. Yes, we are imposing secularism on you, and yes, this is preferable as secularism is neutral.
atheism isn't a religion and even if it was, taking "under god" out of the pledge doesn't specifically promote atheism. It would only be promoting atheism if the pledge was changed to "under the lack of a god", and that would just be retarded.
How about "One nation, under a god or maybe even gods or no gods at all."

The words "under god" were written in several years after the pledge.
Just becuase a group of people believe in it, does not make it a religion.
So lets take a look at the word "atheism."
Breaking it down, we see that it spells out "At he is m" What does the M mean? We know that the unbelievers are trying to get "at he" where "he" means the LORD.
But I'm troubled by the "is m" part. The other three words are actual words: At, He, and Is.
So atheists are after the Lord, but I haven't coded what that M is about - not YET anyway.
But it is still clear that atheists are trying to get the LORD - so it IS a religion after all. The gig is up. We MUST include christianity in our pledge, or else we are adding "At he is M" into it.
Unless your faith is that pitifully weak, that it will not survive without a constant reminder of who you are worshiping, it is the reverse. keeping it there is forcing your religion on those who do not believe in your God.
Christians imposed their religion on all others when they injected "under god" into the pledge in the 50's. Same with "in god we trust" on money.So removing them is just restoring their original states.
Also, not explicitly agreeing with something is not the same as being -anti- that thing. Grow a brain.
So...by not supporting any God, it's supporting Atheism, and as such, supporting a religion, so as such we should just stick with you God as the de facto(sp?) God, mainly because your faith is so weak, if you're not perpetually reminded of it, your religion will crumble into the dust of history.
