I took my kid to see Enchanted yesterday and of course the ads for Golden Compass came on and my kid was like "oh cool". I explained to her why that movie is trash and she said "too bad" because the trailer looks cool. But she doesn't want to see a move that makes God out to be the bad guy.

Why not, your religion already does that.
Ummm, why did you take her to see Enchanted? I haven't seen trailers for it, so I don't know what it's about, but the title sounds kind of like it might have a Magic theme in it?
Better not let her read the Bible then.
God kills millions, the old the young, children, the guilty, the innocent...

it doesn't.....
Anyone one besides me notice the hypocrisy of this? She took her child to see Enchanted, a movie with spells, talking animals, dragon, etc, but put on the brakes for The Golden Compass?
Maybe she should stop reading fundie sites, and actually SEE the movie. Ahhh, that that is asking for too much, independent thought from a fundie sheeple.
God isn't the bad guy. He's a wispy, immaterial old angel man who is quite accidentally killed by a 12 year old. Which doesn't say much for his omnipotence.
The bad guy is the organized church who are a massive gang of assholes.
Er, the villain is the Magisterium, an organization with an intentional resemblance to the Roman Catholic Church of the Crusades and Inquisition.
God is portrayed as a pitiable creature, stripped of power. One actually feels sorry for him after reading the book.
He never makes an appearance in the first book, of course, so he's absent in the movie (like so much of the other controversial material).
But yea, stick to your assumptions and don't bother checking facts or anything. I mean, that's what you Rapture Ready nuts do best, right? Substitute your own fantasies for reality?
***Spoilers warning***
From what I read about the series on Wikipedia, "God" isn't exactly blameless, having conned the younger angels into believing that he was their creator and the creator of the universe, but yeah, by the time of the third book he's rather pitiable, on life support and all his power stolen by his regent.
Ive heard the myth that God is the bad guy in the Golden Compass even before this post. its completely rediculous, seeing how the golden compass is about a magic compass that will defeat an evil girl with a weird taste in fashion (im pretty sure. i never saw the movie). why cant fundies stop going on in life by their ASSUMPTIONS? they need to see facts! and to do that they have to see the movie, which they will enjoy, unfortunatly to themselves (according to themselves).
Meh the movie wasn't that good. Also I don't think any characters of the books are truly "good " people, Lyra is liar and a thief, Will comes into the 2nd book by killing someone, Coulter cuts childrens souls up, Asriel kills a child then goes to war with heaven, Metatron locks The Authority up and takes all his power, The Authority claims to be god, Mary tempts Lyra and Will to sin, and all the other main human characters have at some point killed.
Confused?
