Quote# 32914

A belief in science is a belief that cannot be scientifically proven. ... For me, what sets Christianity apart is its foundation: a God whose character provides a standard for morality and who loves the world enough to defeat death in order to establish a basis for our eternal salvation. :D

Science can't be scientifically proven, WTF?. And the best, "a God that sets a morality..........". Can you reconcile that with your stupid beliefs that you can be the best and most charitable person in the world but, if you don't accept Jesus, you go to Hell?, I insist, WTVF?. Third, what does morality(a totally HUMAN concept), and salvation(whatever a concrete group of humans decide it is) have to do with nature and how the world works?.

and who loves the world enough to defeat death

Have I missed a memo? Last I checked, a fair number of people are still dropping dead all over the planet every day.

OK, to be fair generous to nobrain, the *belief* in science can't be proven, inasmuch as you can't prove that I believe the sky is blue. Although I'm not sure what a belief in science entails, anyway.

Yikes, I think I sprained my cerebrum trying to wrestle that pretzel of a sentence into some form of sense.

And then the rest, which is all based on a huge amount of unprovable belief and essentially states "what sets Christianity apart is [insert Christian dogma here]". Of course, for me, what sets Islam apart is that there is no god but God and Muhammad is His prophet. And what sets FSMism apart is that it involves pasta. And what sets Space Teapotism apart is...

Nothing you say holds water. No belief can ever be totally be scientifically proven, however science is not a belief, it is a study of the nature of all things and an on-going work in progress. Religion, on the other hand is a total leap of faith and NONE of the world's religions is provable. Most religions come with an attached morality, so that is in no way unique to Christianity.PSMost major(and minor) religions believe in the conquest of death through re-incarnation or an afterlife, so that also is not unique to Christianity.

I think this person has read the criticism of the Verification Principle, which is that it cannot prove itself to be true, and taken its a bit too far.
