The American people should be proud of their faith and their great zeal for our lord Jesus Christ! The God-forsaken continent known as Europe should model itself on the United States. (only 21,6% of the Europeans believe in creationism!!?? OUTRAGE!!!)
Consumerism is good for the third world.

Hey, fuckstick...Europe is part of the FIRST world.
I'd gladly take their art, music, and other culture over North America's consumerism.
Consumerism is good for the third world.
Is this in the same post?
It was, but it made some sense in the original context. The thread started with someone complaining about American Christians treating Christmas as a secular, consumerist holiday.
The American people should be proud of their faith and their great zeal for our lord Jesus Christ!
Uhh...it's cool that there are plenty of good believers there and all, but really, try not to overdo it. Really.
he God-forsaken continent known as Europe should model itself on the United States.
That WOULD have been advisable back in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Not so today.
(only 21,6% of the Europeans believe in creationism!!?? OUTRAGE!!!)
I AGREE!!! Something has to be done in order to educate that 21.6%. *frowning smiley*
Consumerism is good for the third world.
As a citizen of a third world country, I beg to differ.
You know, I think this is a Poe. The "OUTRAGE!!!" sounds a little too forced, the mention of consumerism feels out of place, and, most damning, the decimal mark in the percentage is a comma, which is never used in the US.
Creationism is for morons, and in my experience, the average European is more educated than the average American. Most speak more than one language and they have a greater grasp of world affairs and geography.
It's not surprising they consider creationism in the same light as other ancient myths.
I can only speak for my small part of Europe (namely, England), but I'm pretty sure that nowhere near a quarter of us are stupid enough to believe in Creationism.
We actually have proper education here, for one thing. Science is taught in Science classes, and RE is taught in RE classes which nobody goes to (well, in my old school at least).
Guys, in Europe the comma (,) and the period (.) are reversed from America in number notation. That's why you get 23.000.000 (23 milion) and 21,6%.
That percentage is still way too high, although Americans can't really complain - we have about 60% cretinsim here.
" (only 21,6% of the Europeans believe in creationism!!?? OUTRAGE!!!)
"
There are that many idiots in Europe? Wait, did this poll include muslims in Europe? Because that would pump up the number of creation believers.
Unfortunately, they are trying to push creationism into British schools.
You can't spell insidious without ID.
The American people should be proud of their faith and their great zeal for our lord Jesus Christ!
- Er, it's only some of the American people. Far from being a majority too, as I understand it.
The God-forsaken continent known as Europe should model itself on the United States. (only 21,6% of the Europeans believe in creationism!!?? OUTRAGE!!!)
- Europeans look down with pity on the benighted fools who are addicted to pastors and to titheing them, born-again-ism, vain hopes of being raptured, and utter blinkerism regarding that most untrustworty of books the Bible. We also marvel that there is such a lack of intelligence among fundies that the cannot see the self-evident contradictions in the bible and consequently in their beliefs. We deplore their medieval mindset and attempts to control the body politic. We abhor and abominate their hypocrisy. We further despise politicians who pay lip-service to fundamentalism and use it to achieve cynical political gains.
So you can take your OUTRAGE and shove it. I assure you, it is nothing compared to the outrage Europeans feel when they have regard to the idiocies of Bible-Belters, White-Sheet-Wearers, Burning Crosses and American Ayatollahs. There is a good case for banning fundamentalism and establishing a politically and socially acceptable form of religion that eschews such lunatic beliefs as those outlined above.
As to the rest of Americans, you have our sympathy. I think we would probably support you in any move to wipe out lunacy, or at least control it by putting lunatice into asylums. When are you going to start?
21,6% ??? What is the source of that claim?
My observation would point more to 2,16%.

November 2008. Assuming the democratic party grows a spine by then.
You fools! I'm not a fundamentalist. I'm Catholic.
And I revoked that statement about Consumerism.
My source is the newspaper of the Swedish Catholic youth.
You're Swedish and Catholic?, well, let me tell you two little facts.
A)the Catholic church has embraced evolution and rejected creationism.
b)According to a more reliable Catholic source, both the number of practicing Christians in Europe is 10%, more or less and the number of creationists is even lower(6%, if we count muslims).
But you're 15, according to your avatar, what can we expect from you?
I don't belive in you, foul atheist.
Also, belief in evolution is not a dogma.
The percentage of people who believe that some kind of god had some kind direct impact on the creation of mankind is about 18%-21% in Europe. However, that doesn't mean those people are all creationists and the number of scientifically illiterate fuckwits is much lower, which is why I'm happy to live here.
Europe & Christian Fundamentalism:
Been there.
Killed a lot of people.
Got over it, which drove many of the remaining fundies away (guess whereto).
Fundamentalist is a term which has been used with all sorts of religions, be it Islam, Christianity in any of its denominations or Judaism. It means that they want to come back to the FUNDAMENTAL and original points of the religion. And I have read that newsletter, with the help of a friend of mine who is Swedish. It doesn't say that 21.6% of Europeans are Creationist. It's the number of people who can be classified as "believe in God". I insist, you're only 15, WHICH EXPLAINS YOUR IGNORANCE.
Belief in evolution is not a dogma, but neither it's its disbelief. Moreover, they have stated crystaline clear, long before the publication of the Origin of the Species, that Genesis is full of ALLEGORIES.
Scarlet crusader:
The term fundamentalist was invented FOR American protestants, not by them. Catholics can certainly be fundamentalists, I've met some in person. As Eastern christians have no immunity to basic human stupidity, there is no reason they can't be fundamentalists.
IOW, YOU FAIL!
By Toutatis! 21.6% of Europeans are stupid enough to believe in creationism! Outrage. We need to ramp up the schools and sort this out. We can soon stamp out this idiocy which infests almost a quarter of our wonderful continent.
Sheesh, even the Catholic church accepts evolution...
As an aside, 21,6% is a very European way of writing 21.6%...
Aside from the stupid fundie-ism -- "Consumerism is good for the third world"? Uh, learn some economics, please.
Consumerism leads to dependence, debt, bad-quality manufacturing, and pollution. (And that's only the surface economics of it, not the social ramifications.) How one can argue in favor of it is beyond me :P
"How many European nations are even nearly as fucked up as the US? With the likely exception of Britain, none at all!"
Woa! We've got our problems, but I wouldn't go that far.
Tearfund carried out a survey of religious belief in the UK last year, and confirmed what they suspected, religious belief in the UK is in freefall. Only 18% of the British public even claim to be a practicing member of an organized religion, so I very much doubt there are many creationists.
In fact, I've only ever met one creationist in person, a Plymouth Bretheren.
How many European nations are even nearly as fucked up as the US? With the likely exception of Britain, none at all!
And what, precisely, do you mean by that last sentence?
How many European nations are even nearly as fucked up as the US? With the likely exception of Britain, none at all!
Well we did let that religious nut Blare run the UK for 10 years
Well we did let that religious nut Blare run the UK for 10 years
And Blair had 18 years of bloody Tory mismanagement to try to put right before he could do anything else.
Not that he did a particularly wonderful job. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the wanker, but there is no way this country is anything like as fucked up as the US.

Did I say the UK was as fucked up as the US
Wow, I thought it was like 10% in the US.
It's nowhere near that high in Ireland, I hope. I've never met a creationist in my life, nor heard of a one living here. You'd be laughed out of the pub/dole office for suggesting it.
Akhenaten:
Sorry, that was a response to Doctor Fishcake, not you.
I seem to be having problems with the site today. Or perhaps my brain. Is fundie insanity contagious?
Yeah, I'm gonna defer to Europe on this one. Mainly because they have so many nations that do things differently from the US-and they work, things like healthcare and gun control-and honestly, being less like the US is always a good thing.
"Guys, in Europe the comma (,) and the period (.) are reversed from America in number notation. That's why you get 23.000.000 (23 milion) and 21,6%. "
Not true - UK is still part of the EU whilst using the "US system"
Wohoo! 78,4 percent of Europeans adhere to reality.
Why should we, the old countries, model ourselves after you, the new kid? In some cases we see the US as a cautionary example.
Human rights would be even better for the third world.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
