I believe that dry martinis are tasty, many others share that belief. Does that make it a religion?

#1:One or more people sharing a feeling or idea does not make it religion. #2 That was a lot of fail in your statements. #3 And don't make assumtions... you know that makes an ass out of you and me...or maybe just you.

Atheists do not believe in the existence of gods/goddesses.
Atheists do not have a belief that gods/goddesses do not exist.
Do you now see the dishonest semantics you're using?

So if I convince enough people that there is a teapot in perfect orbit around Jupiter, does that mean that I have officially started a religion focused around a teapot orbiting Jupiter? And that I can setup tax free offices were we study this teapot?

I lost count on how many times you all mentioned "Athiest do not have a set of religious belief or practice"
And what's the problem with that? It's not like we don't believe in following rules...
Doesn't that imply that "Athiest are people who do not believe in following a set of rules and practise" ?
No... and you'd know that if you'd spent more than a Pico-second thinking about it...
Again, "Athiest do not believe in the existance of God"Bingo... nothing wrong with that. It's not like we're denying God's existence, just that we don't believe your claims without evidence...
If you look at this statement closely you will realise this .
"Athiest are people who believe that there is no God". Notice how this contrarary happens when we least notice it?
Notice how you're talking bollocks and lying about people?

Atheists have no religious beliefs. None. It is irrelevant to them.
And, by your logic, if more than one person believe the sky is green, they now have a "Blessed of the Green Sky" religion.
You're a fuckwit.

That would make car racing a religion you flog. Atheists don't "believe there is no god" we don't believe in any god. Its not the same thing at all.
Are these people being deliberately stupid?

So you came to the conclusion by changing words and definitions around until it meant what you wanted it to mean?
Wow, aren't you a perceptive one.

I believe ???? is a moron. I'm sure other FSTDTers agree. Therefore we share the "???? is a moron" religion.
Can we get tax exempt status and scream persecution if you disagree with us?

There's no set definition of "religion". But whatever it is, it's not simply "belief in something". By that definition, believing "the sun will rise in the morning" would be a religion.
Simply because someone creates a word meaning "the absence of something" doesn't mean that there is an actual "something" that has the property of non-existence. Just because we have a name for the Tooth Fairy doesn't mean there is an actual Tooth Fairy that has the property of non-existence. Likewise, just because an atheist believes there is no God doesn't mean that atheists believe in a God that has the property of non-existence.
The Logical Positivists shot down these word games a century ago.
@Happymealungen: welcome to my church!

Religion is belief in the supernatural. Atheism has no such aspect.

Ah, but herein lies the problem with Captain Question Mark's argument: he describes that a religion is a belief, except that what we are talking about is a lack of belief. It is not that atheists believe there is no god (which is also different from not believing in the Judeo-Christian God), but rather that they do not believe there is a god. If a religion is defined simply by the existence of a belief, which it isn't, then atheism by definition is the opposite of religion because there is no belief at all!

Over 9 million people play World of Warcraft, does that mean our subscription fees can be religious donations and claimed on tax returns? At least the priests in WoW are actually useful.

Yahoo! Answers needs to be purged, who'd have thought it would become such a bolt hole for the stupid.
