You all gave me enough points to make a few assumptions (not conclusion). Regardless of how many times you try to prove that Athiest isn't a religion. There are a few things you should realize by now. I lost count on how many times you all mentioned "Athiest do not have a set of religious belief or practice"
Doesn't that imply that "Athiest are people who do not believe in following a set of rules and practise" ? Again, "Athiest do not believe in the existance of God". If you look at this statement closely you will realise this .
"Athiest are people who believe that there is no God". Notice how this contrarary happens when we least notice it?
If you perform or live a life believing in what you believe. which is there is no god. Than it would eventually evolve when everyone who shares the same believe that there is no good. SO basically it becomes a "religion" because more then 1 person shares the same feeling and believe .

Atheists do not believe in the existence of gods/goddesses.
Atheists do not have a belief that gods/goddesses do not exist.
Do you now see the dishonest semantics you're using?
I lost count on how many times you all mentioned "Athiest do not have a set of religious belief or practice"
And what's the problem with that? It's not like we don't believe in following rules...
Doesn't that imply that "Athiest are people who do not believe in following a set of rules and practise" ?
No... and you'd know that if you'd spent more than a Pico-second thinking about it...
Again, "Athiest do not believe in the existance of God" Bingo... nothing wrong with that. It's not like we're denying God's existence, just that we don't believe your claims without evidence...
If you look at this statement closely you will realise this .

Notice how you're talking bollocks and lying about people?
Atheists have no religious beliefs. None. It is irrelevant to them.
And, by your logic, if more than one person believe the sky is green, they now have a "Blessed of the Green Sky" religion.
You're a fuckwit.
So you came to the conclusion by changing words and definitions around until it meant what you wanted it to mean?
Wow, aren't you a perceptive one.
There's no set definition of "religion". But whatever it is, it's not simply "belief in something". By that definition, believing "the sun will rise in the morning" would be a religion.
Simply because someone creates a word meaning "the absence of something" doesn't mean that there is an actual "something" that has the property of non-existence. Just because we have a name for the Tooth Fairy doesn't mean there is an actual Tooth Fairy that has the property of non-existence. Likewise, just because an atheist believes there is no God doesn't mean that atheists believe in a God that has the property of non-existence.
The Logical Positivists shot down these word games a century ago.
@Happymealungen: welcome to my church!
Ah, but herein lies the problem with Captain Question Mark's argument: he describes that a religion is a belief, except that what we are talking about is a lack of belief. It is not that atheists believe there is no god (which is also different from not believing in the Judeo-Christian God), but rather that they do not believe there is a god. If a religion is defined simply by the existence of a belief, which it isn't, then atheism by definition is the opposite of religion because there is no belief at all!
Fuck me this is one stupid person. Why the fuck are so many fundie-idiots barely literate? Then, obviously knowing they are illiterate they churn out constant word salads.
Yahoo! Answers needs to be purged, who'd have thought it would become such a bolt hole for the stupid.
Whaaa? Fucking isn't a religion?
Are procrastinators atheists? Atheists, procrastinators?
Atheists don't give a shit if there's a god or not, but generally live their lives as if there isn't.
SO basically it becomes a "religion" because more then 1 person shares the same feeling and believe .
Then star wars is a religion? Will they have a holy war with the trekkies? Or will they gang up on the Harry Potter fans?
You fail Philosophy and English Language (and that's not just because of the grammar). Going by what you said, a person may subscribe to thousands of religions simultaneously and any sentences that do not use the exact same phrasing are contradictory even if they mean exactly the same thing.
Also the invalid logical conclusion that atheists do not believe in all rules based on the premise that atheists do not believe in religious rules is exceptionally poor inductive reasoning. (You gave me enough points to make the assumption that "Athiest are people who do not believe in following a set of rules and practise" refers to any rules rather than specific rules, since: 1, that would be redundant and 2, you are an idiot.)
".... Than it would eventually evolve when everyone who shares the same believe that there is no good. SO basically it becomes a "religion" because more then 1 person shares the same feeling and believe ."
Oh I see.
So since I want a beer..and others also want a beer, ergo BEER is a RELIGION!
So God really IS the opiate of the masses, just like Marx said it was.
BEER is a RELIGION!

This atheist does.
I've heard it said on this site before and think it applies here:
"Atheism is a religion in the same way that bald is a hair colour."
Also: The English Language wins one (1) InterwebsTM .
Actually, we atheists consider ourselves gods and goddesses, you loser.
I, for example, am the God of Removing Adhesive Labels.
Beliving in God carries with it a default set of rules, i.e. the Ten Commandments.
A lack of belief in God(s) has no such connotation.
Whatever John said on the first comments page made about as much sense as the actual quote...
And whoever said that there is "no set definition of religion" apparently hasn't seen a dictionary in awhile.
Religion: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
Religious: relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity
And based on that, I'd have to say that atheism *is* a religion. "Acknowledged ultimate reality" = there is no such thing as higher power (or whatever particular wording you want to use for that sentiment).
Not that *I* believe there is a god. But, like someone else said, Buddhism is a religion without technically having a diety to go along with; it falls more under the "ultimate reality" section.
Yes, we believe that there is no God. That's it. Sum total of atheism (not athiesm) in a nutshell.
Why dou fundies keep adding all sorts of padding to that simple definition? For people with small minds, they sure find it hard to grasp so basic a concept.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
