[On atheists who were formerly believers]
They were never geniune Christians in the first place. If they were, they would have remained with Jesus, but they left as apostates.

So you can't be a Real True ChristianTM unless you know Jesus personally? Therefore, there are know Real True ChristiansTM, therefore, it is possible to be a real true Christian without knowing Jesus personally, because you cannot know Jesus personally, and so that definition is useless.

Why would Peter have had to tell people that if "once saved, always saved" were a valid theology? The bible raises a lot of important questions for the believer.
You should read it sometime
I'll give you this, many had doubts as children that grew as they did so they may have announced their Atheism at some point, 15 or 23 years old after Gramma died or the hypocricy got overwhelming. So they may indeed have never been really believers, it is stupid shit after all, but many did believe, and many of them attribute it to being young and indoctrinated and gullible.
Y'see I was never indoctrinated AT ALL, Christmas trappings carry very little but the Jesus, Lord of Peace story, easily mixed in with Santa, Elves and flying reindeer. So I'm kinda an outsider amoung Atheists but even then I never labeled myself full Atheist until 25 or so. Believe me, it's a lot easier when you start learning about other Biblical claims and church rituals when you're 9 to 20 and already immersed in Marvel Comics, actual books and TV fiction. It's why the church wants you introduced while still very young and why (especially Fundamentalists) hate Hollywood, TV and books and,,,well ANY competition.
PS
Told you this broken leg would make me do more longwinded and meandering posts, Bear with me I may be back to wook in a couple weeks.
“They were never geniune Christians in the first place.”
WHen did God deputize you to judge who is and isn’t among the Faithful? Didn’t He say ’don’t be judgmental, prick’? Or was it without the comma, ’Don’t be a judgmental prick’?
Either way, i don’t think this arrogance is scoring points on the Big Board, is it?
“If they were, they would have remained with Jesus, but they left as apostates.”
That would depend on the definition of ‘true Christain.’
So exactly where did i stop being a Christain?
I believed.
But, I had questions.
I asked the questions.
I got platitudes, IOUs, and people found fault with me for the fact that i HAD questions.
None of these responses satisfied.
So my questions became doubts. I didn’t doubt God, i doubted the people around me that offered their personal opinions as spiritual facts. Like the OP.
And somewhere in searching for God, woke up to realize i was an atheist.
Where was my mistake?
I’d guess it was not accepting the platitudes AS answers?
Or was it arrogantly saying, ‘Wait, this doesn’t make sense?’ in the first place?
Confused?
