"Please don't rip apart Wendy for this, she's a wonderful lady who actually has a decent head on her shoulders."
I highly doubt that.
"But wouldn't it be wise to at least consider seeing a doctor of the same gender as you?"
No, that's stupidity. You go to the doctor with the best education and practice, regardless of gender.
"And wouldn't it be okay to remain with clothes on if possible?"
Well, if you have a big honking mole on your back, it can't be removed unless you take your shirt off. And how about that OBGYN office? The majority of visits to the doctor do not involve taking your clothes off, OK? But if you want breast or prostate cancer to go unchecked, that's your choice.
"The medical profession consists of servants that we hire for their opinions. They are never to be our bosses, that we cower in front of, regardless of how they speak or carry themselves."
No, doctors are individuals who have sacrificed countless hours of study and internship in order to "serve" those who are sick. When people seek out a doctor, they are looking for help. If the doctor tells you to take a cough syrup for your cold, are you going to argue with him/her about it? Maybe you should let the guy/gal with three or four degrees from accredited universities do their job properly. If not, don't go to the doctor's office if you are looking for opinions you don't want to hear.
"God is God. They are not."
God is a myth. Doctors are not.
"But can't we at least be aware that we don't have to 'buy' into a lie that says nakedness is fine, if it involves the medical world?"
Uh, you do know that babies are born naked, right? If "God" thought nakedness was sin, why doesn't he equip these kids with the proper attire? Maybe some Marc Jacobs?
"Shouldn't we reject the lie that we dare not question nudity in a doctor's office because, afterall, everything 'appears' so professional and sterile and safe? Let's have discernment and sensitivity about such things."
I worked in a doctor's office for six years. Both my sisters are medical professionals. The majority of people who work in doctor's offices are trained professionals in interpersonal and medical skills. The topic of people being/getting naked for procedures is not overlooked.
Some medical procedures involve the taking off of clothing. There is nothing "wrong" about this, except the individual having irrational "guilt" over it. There is nothing sexual about it - like I said, doctors are trained about these things. In fact, proper medical procedure calls for a female assistant to be in a room when a female patient gets undressed - regardless of the gender of the doctor. That was standard procedure at the office I worked at, and I heard no complaints about people getting naked.
But like I said, if your friend would rather let people suffer than be properly cared for, that doesn't say a whole lot about her character.
