There have been many dreams that I have "dropped" since learning of these events. I was going to get my Masters degree but then thought "why?". I wanted to buy a cabin in Gatlinburg TN but thought, I will just wait and let Jesus give it to me during the Millennium (if that is available).

Aren't we , like, 8 years into the millennium right now?
Or are we waiting for the next millennium?
But then you'd already be dead for 1000 years and theoretically in Heaven, right? So how does not buying a cabin now matter then?
Or does Millennium not mean millennium?
And what why wouldn't it be available? Is Jesus a landlord? is he going to rent out your cabin to someone with a bigger security deposit? Will heaven have zoning restrictions?
I'm confused and frightened.
I know that Rapture Ready can be pretty fucked up, but surely this is a joke, right? A poe?
Please I just need to believe this.
I agree with HeathenAngel: this is very sad.
As noted in the Wikipedia,
In 1844, William Miller predicted the return of Christ to occur on October 22, 1844 revised after an initial prediction for the 1843/1844 Hebrew Year. The failure of Jesus to appear on this date after his followers had sold all their possessions was referred to as The Great Disappointment.
We have seen this before. It makes some folks a great deal of money selling books and "Jebus." We will see it again.
Holy Hell. I should join a fundy church. At least then I could say I was simply waiting for Jesus' imminent arrival rather than admitting I'm a lazy bastard. Somehow I think I'd actually garner sympathy...
Hm... I have a sneaky idea. I'll start a blog claiming that I'm a devout fundy who's quit their job, lost their house and has no money for food. All in preparation for Jesus, since he'll be here any day now or so I'm told. Of course I'll have a 'donation' button prominently displayed so all these sheep can support me.
Muahahahaha!
*runs off to put his evil plan into action*
"I was going to get my Masters degree but then thought 'why?'"
Because you enjoy being able to do what you want to do well? I want to eventually get my masters in CS or ECE (whichever is more useful) because I enjoy these things and I want to be GOOD at them.
"I wanted to buy a cabin in Gatlinburg TN but thought, I will just wait and let Jesus give it to me during the Millennium (if that is available)."
Are you sure Jesus wasn't giving you a sign to buy the cabin then?
So, Jesus, apart from your Lord and Savior, is he now your real state manager and your professor?. I hope he has other 6 billion children to look after, who need more urgent help, than focusing in a stupid materialistic spoiled and lazy child like you.
I knew plenty of Christians in graduate school. They didn't think that it was against their faith to get masters' degrees or even doctorates. In fact, they thought that they were glorifying their deity by using the intelligence that their deity had supposedly given them.
I really think that many of the folks at RR would have put their entire lives on hold regardless; if it weren't for the Rapture, it would be for something else.
This is from the same thread, from the same poster. I thought it was even sadder.
"I have not stopped any short term plans (within a year or two). But, as far as continuing my education (going on to Bachelors degree) ***or thinking long term about my son's (he is soon 14) future***, I do not bother."
(emphasis mine)
From the same thread:
"I have a quirky question. In your humble opinion, I have surgery scheduled for March. I'm not worried about the outcome, but it requires an 8 week recovery period and I'm just not sure it's worth it. I've seriously considered telling the doc that I want to postpone the surgery because I really don't want to put myself through that if we aren't going to be around much longer anyway."
Not only sad. Downright scary!
Ah, who cares? It's just one more available university place for somebody who'll actually put it to use, and one empty cabin for somebody who actually wants to make a life for themselves. JenGC can starve naked on a mountaintop waiting for her saviour for all I care.
So much for "God helps those who helps themselves."
Anyone else reminded of the joke about the little old lady caught in the flood who refused rescue, saying "The Lord will provide"? (For those who haven't heard it, the punchline is that she drowns and confronts God at the pearly gates, demanding to know why he didn't save her. He says, "I sent you two lifeboats and a helicopter, what more did you want?")
I Found Christ (Sung To The Tune of "Because I Got High" by Afroman)
I was gonna live my life
But then I found Christ
He's gonna give me everything I need soon
Because I found Christ
I'm living on Government welfare
And I know why
Because I found Christ
Because I found Christ
Because I found Christ
La Da Da Da Da Da

That's so sad. She has no idea that her son is going to be around long enough to resent her lack of preparation for the rest of his life.
Anyone dumb enough to do that probably couldn't get a degree anyway. Wise choice, now you won't waste your time and spend all that money in college only to fail or drop out.
Enjoy your cardboard box!
"I wanted to buy a cabin in Gatlinburg TN but thought, I will just wait and let Jesus give it to me during the Millennium (if that is available)."
I heard Kentucky will be, but there is no millennial availability in Tennessee any more.
Sorry, but Jesus doesn't give away cabins.
Odin does, though. So, after Ragnarok (or The Rapture to you heathens), while I'm downing port mead with Thor and hitting on Freya in MY cabin, I can look out the window and see your poor, pathetic face out in the cold, staring longingly and jealously, at MY cabin.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
No, seriously. You're an idiot, Jen.

This issues was addressed in 2nd Thessolonians, an epistle attributed to Paul but widely disputed today. Apparently, there were many people who were doing just that, refusing to work because Jesus would return, "soon," and thus becoming dead weight in their communities. The letter states that, "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat", (2 Thess. 3:10).
Of course, considering how few fundamentalists have actually read the bible, that should have no impact on your plan.
Confused?
