There are several different species of dog, but there is no evidence that a dog was ever anything but a dog.

"there is no evidence that a dog was ever anything but a dog."
As illustrated by centuries of domestic breeding, SELECTING TRAITS that aid a dog in their NICHE PURPOSE.
hmm that sounds familiar...
Also dogs can reproduce with coyotes dingos and wolves.
Oh man... A later comment they made:
'Actually, there is no evidence that they came from wolves. They can bred with wolves but no real evidence that they actually came from wolves.
You really don't know that dogs came from wolves, you're just guessing because they are similar. When it comes down to it, not all evolutionists agree that dogs came from wolves because the evidence is not conclusive.'
"There are several different species of dog,"
Really now? Let's see, there's Canis lupus familiarus and... Hm. Nope, that's it.
"but there is no evidence that a dog was ever anything but a dog."
Genetic evidence suggests wolves were domesticated in Asia about 15k years ago. Around 10k - 12k years later humans had bred around 10 separate and distinct breeds from which all modern dogs stem. In other words, the science says you're a moron.
Not so, though.
It has been shown, through breeding, that if you take a wild canine, of nearly any species, and breed it for the trait of domesticity, the animals physically change. The ears droop, they develop varied colour patterns, and, most important, a bark. This happens with canine species that don't bark.
Dogs most likely came from wolves, but several breeds of dogs may be descended from several different species of canines. The genetics are still being worked out.
So, actually, this is a fail.
If you had watched the PBS documentary on dogs last week, you would have learned that dogs evolved from wolves as a result of scavenging near human settlements.
Then again you would probably have screamed, "Heretics! Goddidit! Burn in hell you liberal Darwinist bastards!" and learned nothing.
These fundies keep saying "there's no evidence of _______," while the evidence they deny just continues to accumulate. It's like someone on the beach screaming, "There is no evidence of an ocean!" as loud as he can, trying to be heard over the sound of the crashing surf.

*sigh* yes, you're right, there's no evidence. Well done.
Now please go away and leave us ignorant fools to play with our worthless "scientific evidence"; don't worry, we won't bother you -- there's quite a lot of it to keep us busy.
Family Canidae -> Species Canis lupus -> Subspecies Canis lupus familiaris-> Canis domesticus
No, there is only one species of dog. Canis domesticus. There are different BREEDS of dogs, culled and interbred to get desired traits.
Dogs were originally Canis lupus, of Family Canidae. You really need to read those biology books instead of burning them.
Sure there is. For example, a dog has genes for full color vision, but the genes are damaged by mutations and don't work. Why would a dog have disabled genes for full color vision if they don't have full color vision? That's like putting a non-working ignition system in a diesel engine. Evolution explains this easily: dogs evolved from animals that had full color vision; but dogs didn't need it because they hunt at dawn and dusk. So it was replaced by improved night vision. Creation explains it by assuming God was a moron who gave dogs unnecessary genes.
If I were a dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac, would I lay awake at night wondering about the existance or otherwise of a dog?
Several species of dog? Hmmm, I don't think so, different species can't mate, but different breeds or subspecies can. Wolves can breed with dogs, rare but it does happen.
My neighbor's Yorkshire terrier was able to mate with my other neighbor's chihuahua and their offspring was able to mate with a stray dachshund resulting in my current pet dog.
Yes, it is one strange looking dog that looks nothing like its parents and grandparents. It could have mated with other dogs or a wolf, but I've spayed it.
@John maybe that's the next fundie movement and they'll play god's imperfection as human misunderstanding or some booboo. Wait! They already are, at least IRL.
'cept, like, you know, a wolf. or a wild dog.
Or the various mammals that became those things.
or the mammals that came before that.
and it goes back and back...
"There are several different species of dog"
Canis_lupus, oh wait, THATS ALL!
May I advise you to go and study wolves. ?
Study them closely...
Closer....
Go on and count their teeths...
Goooood...
And this, kids, is how you eliminate an idiot from the gene pool.
Confused?
