OK. Let's try a point-by-point rebuttal approach this time. You'll find my answers preceded by two asterisks.

How many of you agree that science needs to be reined in, and that out of control science is one of the greatest dangers to mankind short of Satan himself? YES
** Your answer is grammatical nonsense. Try again.
Should there be limits to what scientists can study? YES
** Up to a certain point. Some researchers’ (e.g., Dr. Mengele) have gone far out of line.
Should all research be subjected to some kind of ethics board approval? YES
** Not all, but some. Genetic manipulation of humans, for instance.
Should be some kind of review of any proposed research for ethical purposes, and should that board include people who are not themselves scientists? YES
** Not any, but some. See previous answer.
Is the whole idea of discovery for the sake of discovery is flawed? YES
** That’s the whole effin’ point of scientific research! The expression of a fundamental human trait called curiosity. Formalized, reined-in curiosity, but curiosity nonetheless. Something we've been created with, in case you forgot.
Are there limits to what mankind should be allowed to know? YES
** Some knowledge can be very dangerous if put in the wrong hands, but this doesn’t mean this knowledge should be forbidden, only restricted. One way of doing so is to staunchly refuse to learn for ideological reasons. If enough do it, well... Please investigate how the U.S. is doing in education compared to other industrialized countries, then decide for yourself if it’s such a good thing.
Is the much touted liberal idea of being open minded a recipie for destruction? YES
** No. Besides, I don't know any Destruction Pie recipe. Lots of habaneros peppers, I presume. Care to share?
Does being too open minded cause people to think too much and question too much? YES
** You believe in God. Therefore, you believe we humans have been granted by this same God the gifts of logic, reason and analytical thought. Out of all (known) Creation, we are the unique recipients of these gifts. Now, go read the Parable of the Talents, and get back to me.
Is it dangerous to think too much, and question too much? YES
** See previous question.
Is it dangerous to know too much? YES
** Under very specific circumstances. See Hitchcock (1956).
Does knowledge ultimately reduce peoples fear of God? YES
** And how is that a bad thing? Much better to praise him knowingly out of awe for the grandeur of his creation that out of sheer terror you’ll be thrown in Hell if you’re not enough of a toadie...
Is it better to be closed minded - secure in the knowledge that God has told you everything that you need to know? YES
** Darn, my VCR is on the fritz. Should I consult the owner’s manual or the Bible?
We really need to put the breaks on science. Scientists should only be allowed to study what needs to be studied as decided by the people. Scientists should stop telling people what to believe.
** Two points. a) Reality is NOT decided upon by vote. b) Shouldn’t religious folks also stop telling people what to believe? It would just be fair, no?
