[ShieldOfFaith answers to criticism of his idea of secession from the United States.]
1. Economy! Economy! Economy! That's all I ever hear about. YOU WILL HAVE NO ECONOMY IF MOST OF YOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD BECAUSE GOD LAID THE EVER LOVING SMACK DOWN UPON YOU, VIA HURRICANES/ EARTHQUAKES/ FIRES/ FLOODS/ FAMINES/ PESTILENCE/ DIRTY BOMBS...ECT..
2. The Confederacy lost because of arms, munitions, and men. LAZY??? Go tell that to all those who died at Bull Run, Shiloh, Seven Pines or Gettysburg.

Erm, considering that the North still has the advantage over the South out in most areas, I don't see a Second Confederacy going particularly well. More likely than not, it would end up with enormous casualties on both sides(unless either side is stupid enough to use nukes on a country so close to them that they too would be affected by the fallout) and the South as part of the Union again.
"2. The Confederacy lost because of arms, munitions, and men."
And stupidity. They were stupid enough to think that they could win even though outnumbered and outgunned. Add to that the lack of economy (one product, easily produced elsewhere) and it's a wonder they lasted as long as they did. If they hadn't had better generals, they'd have only lasted six months.
I have nothing against our friends in the south and strongly doubt many of them would support this kind of lunacy. But the "Confederacy" today is a net receiver of Federal money. If they actually seceded, the rest of the country could enjoy a nice tax cut and the Confederacy would find itself in a significant hole, even if they could maintain the same level of military for the same cost. Mississippi, for example, receives almost $2 in Federal money for every $1 it pays in Federal taxes. Add to that the question of how much, if any, the seceded Confederacy could claim from the rest of the country's Social Security Trust Fund, and the South would be facing an almost doubling of their taxes.
I suspect that given the choice between seceding or buying a new pickup truck or big-screen HDTV, the majority of people are going to choose to stay in the union.
@484: it's possible he's a remarkably dedicated troll. I'm more inclined to think, however, that he's actually one of these clowns.
You can find Christian Exodus' website here. I'm surprised we haven't heard more from them on this site, actually.
The Confederate Army was starting to lose its nerve -- they saw black soldiers fighting alongside white soldiers, and a lot of them started wondering, if not what they were fighting for overall, whether it was really a good idea to keep enslaved people who were every bit as effective as they were at fighting. (Granted, not enough to keep the spirit of racism alive and enshrined in law for another hundred years, but enough to screw with Johnny Reb's head.)
It didn't help, of course, that the Union Army cut off the Confederate West early on and kept heavily Confederate-sympathetic states such as California and Maryland from splitting off, or that much of the Mississippi Valley was pro-Union to begin with.
I'm sorry, is this person serious?
If God ever did exist, he's long since committed suicide because he saw what kind of people worshipped and admired him.
ShieldOfFaith? That name in itself wraps up what faith is, a shield from the harshness of reality.
Please, pop a riddlin, calm the fuck down, and hang yourself.
ShieldofFaith, I love you.
"[...]GOD LAID THE EVER LOVING SMACK DOWN UPON YOU[...]"
You brighten my day with such sentences. Perhaps it's only funny because I'm sleep deprived... but it still made me smile.

Now HIM I would worship

Woah, just back that truck load o' bull up a bit SoF! Not that long ago, I seem to remember, you were busy pointing out how if God is on your side not even a barrage of WMDs will defeat you. Now you're saying that the Confederacy lost because of the usual (and simple) military logistics.
Either God was on the side of the Union, which pretty much kills your secession argument, or he backed the Confederacy but it lost anyway, and bang goes your 'shield of faith'.
1. The economy, unlike your god, is real. It can actually hurt me, instead of being a means for asshats like you to make petty threats you can then back away from with a simple "God said it, not me" defense.
2. They lost it then for the same reasons they'd lose it now. Too economically dependent, unorganized, unwilling to submit to an authority (and thus unable to create them, as is needed for a government or military), and no international support.
The war is over, SoF. By 140 years. And you'd STILL be fucked if you ran it over again. Want proof? Remember what happens whenever the feds send troops into the south? They get their way, whether it's the Civil War or the Civil Rights Movement.
Yes ShieldOfFaith, please succed.
And take all the fundies with you.
Infact, why don't you go create your own "fundie island" where all you morons can live.
I can't get this vision out of my head, so maybe sharing it will help.
Assuming that ShieldofFilth's ridiculous pipe dream came to fruition, I see not a glorious Christian utopia, but a grotesque amalgamation of Idiocracy, 1984 and the Handmaid's Tale.
ShieldOfFaith, everybody. Possibly the most arrogant, tragic, mentally poisoned man to ever be bestowed the priviledge of an internet connection.
Poor bugger.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
