So i am in my second semester at a Baptist university here in San Antonio. My professors and fellow students are very liberal. At first I was fighting it all in apologetics with my fellow pastor (he goes to the same university as me) but now i am getting tired. I have fought on how the Bible is really inspired, i have fought that messianic prophecy is real, i have fought against evolution, i have fought against blood atonement, i have fought against women being head pastors, how being a homosexual is a sin, i have fought that we worship a different God then Muslims, and now i am fighting against Jesus being the only way. —they are teaching and the people are accepting that anyone can get to heaven. People can see Jesus through allah and budda and pagan gods etc—
It is so sad, this is a BAPTIST school and we are having to refute and debate every single word that comes out of their mouths. Not to mention every paper we write has to be amazing papers or we have to agree with their garbage. Granted, being an evangelist and wanting to get into apologetics I have learned alot of arguments etc. but its so sad that the school allows practicing homosexuals and endorses views from above. Its not only the professors but 3/4 of the school atleast. They teach and endorse all of these things. Please pray for guidance on what I should do.
Any advice?

Buck up and put on your big boy pants.
And I'm seriously finding it hard to believe that Baptists are liberal. That's like, an oxymoron.

I thought that's what you liked about gOd.
Translation: I'm going to college; but actually, I already know everything. I'm just looking for people to agree with me so I can say I have a degree in this stuff and prove to everyone that I'm right and they're wrong. But damn, when I got here, I found out that they don't agree with me! Now I know I can't be wrong, so they must be a bunch of atheistic idiots. I already know I'm right and they're morons.
If you can't even capitalize i when you are speaking about yourself or capitalize proper nouns, you shouldn't be in college.
And yes, in college, you ARE expected to write amazing papers! Judging from the subission, this is an area theroc stuggles with.
You fought and you fought and you fought, and yet you still lost. Did it ever occur to you that you may be wrong?
"one of the professors called the God of the bible, a blood thirsty God. And the students...laughed"
Good on 'em.
Well hard fucking cheese.
Think you know it all, don't you.
I bet you think god makes a few mistakes.
Maybe you'd care to put him right.
"Not to mention every paper we write has to be amazing papers or we have to agree with their garbage."
That's what you do in university, and you receive a degree that is worth a damn by the end of it. If you don't like it you can buy one in the mail like Kent Hovind, but don't expect anyone who earnt their degree to treat you with any respect.
Perhaps he'd be happier at one of those "Bible Colleges" you see on the side of the interstate. Heck Jerry Fallwell picked one of those over Virginia Tech, look how well that worked out. Wait, he should have gone to Tech, probably would have kept him quiet.
Go to a different school.
Or go back home and crawl under your bed.
Or grow up and realize that a school of any kind is a place where you give up the notion of being right and adopt the attitude of being educated - which is not the same thing.
Or DIAF - it's your life, after all.
This is UNIVERSITY, not your Thursday night Bible study.
If you can't handle analyzing your beliefs empirically, perhaps you should rethink your reasons and your justification for believing.
PS: Your professors are the ones who are knowledgeable. They have studied much longer than you. I suggest you take your chance to learn something from them.

Thou shall not end a sentence with a preposition!
Corrected: "..an area /with which/ theroc struggles."
God, someone call the WAAAAhbulance for this kid. Honestly.

I love the ellipses. "They LAUGHED! Laughed, I tell you! Oh, the humanity!"
Oh noes! They haz a sense of humor! And proportion. How terrible.
theroc, it's called education. And it's a wonderful thing. Give it a try sometime.
Those damn queer-lovin', bible-hatin', evolutionist atheist liberals are at again. Grab your pitch fork, it's time for a good ol' fashioned lynching!
Somebody needs to tell this arrogant little twit that the purpose of going to school is to LEARN stuff, not to "teach" your personal opinions as fact.
I am ever amazed at people who haven't even spent two decades on this planet being absolutely convinced that they are smarter than those of us who have accumulated decades more experience and knowledge and wisdom than they have. What, we start smart and get stupider as we get older?
School is for learning, dimbulb, not for evangelizing!
I have to agree with him though. If he's going to a baptist school (and paying to do so) he should be getting a baptist inspired education, based solely on his religion.
Seems logical to me, in fact I would like to offer myself to be hired as a teacher. I could just read the bible all day, every day. Put me on the payroll!
ps. one of the professors called the God of the bible, a blood thirsty God. And the students...laughed
Um, one more question.
Has this individual actually READ the Bible? Just wondering. Because the God of the Bible is, in fact, seriously bloodthirsty.
"Any advice?"
Move to Saudi Arabia.
What, we start smart and get stupider as we get older?
Of course. Didn't most of us know everything when we were 20?
Actually, this quote gave me hope. Not for theroc; his head is so far up his butt he will undoubtedly succumb to methane poisoning in the near future. But, it is refreshing to learn of a Baptist university in Texas where, apparently, not everyone is a blithering idiot. Wow!
NEWSFLASH #1! If you are going to get education in a post-secondary capacity in Religious Studies, you WILL be expected to do more that recite Bible verses. You will be expected to do more that glean a vague meaning from a verse, and will likely be shocked to find that a lot of verses mean a MUCH different thing in their actual context.
NEWSFLASH #2! If you are going to try and challenge general consensus, you better be ready to back yourself up, because the radicals in any field always have a tough go of it. Generally because the standard is not accepted for no reason in the first place (Not to say it's infallible...just backed with the best evidence at hand), so you should have something pretty groundbreaking to counter it with. Or you're just throwing a hissy fit, as the case seems to be now.
NEWSFLASH #3! Just because you think that those people your God killed are evil sinners deserving of death does NOT make him any less bloodthirsty.
If a Baptist school in San Antonio, Texas (the Deep Deep South) is actually challenging students to think for themselves, then there truly is hope for this country yet. Hopefully most of the students aren't complete morons like the fundy that posted this.
Identify the school. I'd like to make a small donation.
Scion: despite what Miss Onderdonk told you in sixth grade, there is no rule in English prohibiting the placement of a preposition at the end of a sentence. In fact, the freedom to do so is one of the great strengths of the language, and there are some constructions that would be immensely awkward without a preposition at the end. In the early 18th Century, when English was becoming more formalized and structured, scholars sought to impose grammatical rules from Latin, whence this one originated. You can't do it in Latin. But in English this so-called rule has existed only in the minds of ultra-purists. Ignore it.
My credentials: two degrees in English Lit., 50 years as a journalist, copywriter and editor.
If you are in any way connected with RR there is no point in offering you any advice. I suggest that you just sit on a rock and await the coming of your Rapturing Lord until you die. I believe you will die, and he still won't have come. Sad. He will never come, but you hold onto your belief. And sit on your rock. That way you should be out of harm's way, and should avoid corrupting others by your false beliefs.
I was shocked at your letter. I'm on your side brother, and then I read the comments....I couldn't believe the garbage that was being written. Someday, payday! Please know that I for one, will be praying for you. God bless you and know the end is closer then thought. Just remember that God is the strength of your live.
I just stumbled across this, and wanted to let you know that I read it and prayed for you. Just remember that the bible is truth; read and study it, and fight for God's word regardless of what the people around you say or think.
for one the bible actually has gay references and the sadder part my pastor when i was Baptist pointed that out of the bible himself, he accepted people as they were cause if God created everyone then he has a bigger plan and etc..etc..etc.. but now off the BS part. Its the REAL world you have to grow up sometime or you arent gonna make it.
Second semester University student? Good to see your edukashun is doing good fer yer gramma, like know wot i mean?
Sorry, when people claiming to be educated don't capitalise "I" and think "I have fought on how" is a good syntax, among other schoolboy errors, it brings out the Grammar Nazi in me.
Anyway, what's with all the fundies on this thread? The OP isn't controversial, or fundie per se, just stupid and poorly written.
You have been doing a awful lot of 'fighting' haven't you? Women being head pastor? - Biff! - messianic prophecy is real - kapow! - evolution - smash! (Cue Batman cartoon sound effects). Oh, and btw, if there is only one God then how can Muslims worship a different God? There must be more than one then! Or is it because they call Allah?? Don't you know the French call God Dieu? Do they worship a different God? Don't you know Arabic speaking Christians also call God Allah because it's the Arabic word for God. But then you probably don't think Arabic Christians are real Christians do you because they're not White Americans.
What a sad existence you must lead, fighting with everyone over everything. Ever think you should just let people believe what they want to believe? Ever think for a second that you should stop fighting everyone so much and start just living life to the fullest? Nobody's telling you not to be a Christian. Nobody is telling you not to believe what you believe. Just chill the hell out and stop being so defensive. It makes everyeones lives a little easier.
And also, grow the fuck up. You're an adult now, start acting like one.
Confused?
