Quote# 34231

Creation as described genesis is a reality... and of course there is an evolution of things (the reason why you look like a combo of your mom and dad) but you cannot evolve outside your class. Example: plant kingdom, animal kingdom, people kingdom..... You are created in the image and likeness of an amazing Creation.... but if you want to believe that an amoeba became a monkey after a million years and then fell off a tree, tail was cut off, and we got jobs and became humans.... that is fine .... you can believe you are made in the image of a monkey.
But I prefer to see you and all people as something special and unique - Godlike.

Is this what we get when a fundie admits speciation is possible?

Fundie: OMG, your with teh debbil, animals don't evolve!
Us: Er, yes, they do, what about bacteria developing a resistance to antibiotics?
Fundie: WTF OK so they do that but a bacteria is still a bacteria!!1 u never c a monkey give birth to a dog lol
Us: Er, have a look at these transitional fossils.
Fundie: WTF ROFL!!1 This proves evilution how?! There still animals! Show me an animal give birth to a tree and ill believe you're silly religion of evilution!11

I honestly have a bad feeling about this.

You can believe you are made in the image of a monkey ... or you can believe you came from dirt. Which makes more sense?

1/29/2008 5:01:08 PM

Papabear

People are animals, dipshit.

It took more tha "a million years" for monkeys to evolve from the amoeba and millions and millions more for humans to evolve from a monkey-like ancestor.

We are not "made" in the image of a monkey, we are simply a large, self-aware (most of us) species of ape.

Prefering to view a fairy tale as true does not make it true, it just displays your idiocy.

That's sweet, but scientific evidence still indicates that you are WRONG.

Don't tell me; let me guess. Both Genesis creation stories are Divinely inspired and literally true. You do realize that there are two, don't you?

people kingdom? I don't ever recall hearing about the people kingdom in biology? does this stem from your kingdom of heaven maybe?

bonus points for /allowing/ us our own views I guess. It's certainly a step in the right direction, away from the fundie, "everyone must believe what I believe" crap.

But what about your caste? Can you evolve outside of your caste?

Kingdoms are at the second level of classification. The human species is at the 26th level of classification. You are only 25 orders of magnitude wrong. Not bad for a fundie.

"Creation as described genesis is a reality..."

Not even close, pal.

"and of course there is an evolution of things (the reason why you look like a combo of your mom and dad) but you cannot evolve outside your class."

Well, you're sort of correct in a round about, fuzzy sort of way.

"Example: plant kingdom, animal kingdom, people kingdom....."

If you'll look closely you'll probably note those are "Kingdoms", not "Classes".

"You are created in the image and likeness of an amazing Creation...."

If you say so.

"but if you want to believe that an amoeba became a monkey after a million years and then fell off a tree, tail was cut off, and we got jobs and became humans.... that is fine ...."

You really like those ellipses, don't you? Also, that's a mighty fine straw man you've got there.

"But I prefer to see you and all people as something special and unique - Godlike."

And one hell of an ego to go along with your straw man it seems. I'm sure you're aware that calling yourself "Godlike" is heretical and, in an earlier time, you'd have been burned at the stake, right?

and of course there is an evolution of things but you cannot evolve outside your class. Example: plant kingdom, animal kingdom, people kingdom

Explain why small changes, when integrated over time, can't result in changes large enough to cross a class boundary.

By the way, you seem to be erroneously using the word "class" interchangeably with "kingdom" - a class is two taxonomic ranks below a kingdom; you cannot therefore describe the boundaries of a class in terms of "plant", "animal", etc, which are kingdoms.

Even if you wont budge on your dogmatic rejection of evolution, at least save us some headaches by learning the right words before you sound off.

Mr. Tambourine Man

Well, humans are frequently petty, violent, and cruel, so I can see where you're coming from on the "Godlike" comparison (if you go by the biblical God, anyway). Everything else, though, is complete bupkis.
