Yes, science has got us out of the 'Dark Ages', certainly, but at what price? I think I'd be much happier if I were living in the so-called Dark Ages than now. Then there was certainty, now only doubt all the time.

One wonders: Why was it necessary for the Catholic Church to institute the Inquisition? Perhaps there was much more (justified!) doubt in the official dogma than our naive fundie likes to see ...
You want to live in the 'Dark Ages'? Simple: Move to Afghanistan or any of the other Fundie Muslim countries.
Oh? You don't want it quite that dark. How dark, exactly? Medium dark? It is a tough decision like "How do you like your toast in the morning?"
Go live there...you'll change your tune when you're dying of a common cold. Certainty? In the friggin' Dark Ages?! That's a laugh! Back when diseases were supposedly caused by "demons" (Germs are some tiny little demons!)...and unusual people were accused of being witches--especially if they had cats? Back when people were guilty until proven innocent? Back when people lived in fear of the Inquisition? Back when society was based on fear, paranoia and control? Back when only a select few knew jack squat and were determined to keep the masses in the dark the better to control them (hence the name)? Certainty, my ass!
Sure, let's go back to the Dark Ages, when it was illegal for women to read, and there was nothing. NOTHING. No medical treatment. No computers. No electricity. NOTHING. Back when people thought the sun orbited the earth. Back when you were lucky if you could live to be 40 years old. Yep, that was the happiest period in the history of the earth.
You're right. The price we paid is very high: losing racism, sexism, intolorance, and much pain and suffering caused by a lack of technology.
We should all go back into an age where people live short, painful lives full of suffering.

So pretend you're there already and get the fuck off the Internet. And also give up your house, your car or any other modern form of travel, electricity, fresh water, fresh food, shopping at the grocery, modern medicines, modern surgical techniques....

Y'see these fundamentalist Christians love to pretend the promise of Jesus came true, that his sacrifice made the world better so the idjits in fundamentalist churchs think it's all been rosey since the year 0 or 33 I guess. And it's convenient for them that being new denominations they can blame the Catholics for the Atrocities commited centuries ago. But that being done, and Catholics being defanged and turned into the gentler/ kinder brand over those years to today, the fundies are adopting all their dark ages, punishing, vengeful Gods edicts of the Dark Ages.
OK, the so-called “Dark Ages” have a worse reputation than warranted, but life then wasn’t that great either. Chances are that if “emotional” would have been born back then, they would have most likely died before they even got to kindergarten age.
And if there is one word I don’t associate with the Early Middle-Ages, it is “certainty”
