Quote# 34539

What’s going to happen when humans are successful [with human cloning]. Will cloned humans have spirits? If they don’t, could demons enter them? With no human spirit to contend with in a genetically perfect body, what havoc could these beings wreak on the world? And how would they be stopped?

Considering there are no such things as souls and demons, I think we are in the clear.

Mr. Tambourine Man

You're absolutely right. I mean, one out of two identical twins is always an homicidal, demon-possessed monstrosity that the government must track down and slay.

Really, the distinction between identical twins and clones is pretty small; if some issues with telomeres and whatnot can be worked out, clones would be identical twins that simply did not gestate with their twin.

So unless you are, in fact, arguing that only one twin of a set of identical twins ends up with a soul, you've got no leg to stand on. And if you are willing to argue that...well, there are some nice men with a white coat for you to try on.

How would they be stopped?

How bout a bullet to the dome ya twit.

Think about it this way. When a twin is born most of the time what happens is that a single embryo splits in two and forms two fully functional fetuses. Which one has the soul? Or what happens when two eggs are impregnated and then they merge into a single fetus? Does the fetus now have two souls? Address these problems first before veering wildly out into the vane of suicidal stupidity.

So clones are supposedly "genetically perfect" now? And if they were soulless, they might possibly be readily occupied by -- of all things -- demons? Souls and spirits haven't even ever been shown to exist, and their existence is just one of many absurd assumptions at work here.

First of all, I get the impression that this poster's knowledge of science comes from such classically unimpeachable sources as Thrilling Wonder Stories, circa 1950 (or earlier).

And second, seriously, fundies live in a fantastic, magical world. I really don't understand how they ever manage to interact meaningfully and workably with the real one.

Sounds like a great make-work program for exorcists!

If a cloned human does not have a soul, then we can harvest them for body parts. That would stop the "genetically perfect bodies" from wreaking havoc.

Of course there are no souls and demons. More fundy made up nonsense.

Yet another point for fundies to waste hours pondering, rather than worrying about how to help those in need, who may be less fortunate than themselves. Pathetic, moronic and pointless.

Only if there were such things as 'demons', but the only demons you see, are in your fertile imagination. If raised like any old baby, a cloned human would develop the same way as a 'normally produced' baby.

Star wars for Jesus award!

Uh - you might want to watch that slope, man. It looks awfully slippery.

2/5/2008 6:48:08 AM

Reverend Davidius

demons have to be more than figments of one's imagination before they can possess someone. as for the soul, there's no proof of that either, so why worry that clones don't have something we can't even prove exists?

Unless shortened telomeres act as some sort of spirit inhibitor, I highly doubt it. NOMa ftw.

There's nothing more genetically perfect about the clone then there is about the original.

2/5/2008 7:22:22 AM

I think so far they use human uteri, so cloned humans are completely identical to regular generic humans.

The only problem is when they start using robotic uteruses, because that might be really hot. :D

2/5/2008 7:25:24 AM

Clones are genetically perfect? Really up on our cloning science I see. First of all there's no such thing as a soul/spirit/ whatever.

Second, I think you should not watch any more Zombie movies, you seem to have that Christian condition of inability to tell fiction from reality (there must be a psych term for this, I'm to tired to look it up).

2/5/2008 7:38:44 AM

God'sKid doesn't know what he's talking about.

BTW: If he's "God'sKid", should we address him as Jesus?

2/5/2008 7:38:46 AM

Fantastic setup for a action/horror/zombie movie. Other than that... you're stupid.

2/5/2008 7:40:02 AM

so people without spirits are now free to rule the world? Awesome! Dibs on all the nukes!

2/5/2008 8:42:51 AM

With a genetically perfect body?, demons?...........when fundies don't understand science, they tend to be as shallow as possible.

2/5/2008 9:09:58 AM

Cloning does not work that way... GOODNIGHT!

2/5/2008 9:13:41 AM

Doctor Fishcake

Maybe they can knock up a batch of humans 2.0 free from whatever genetic defect it is that makes people become fundies.

2/5/2008 9:16:43 AM

Cloning can be quite hard to understand.
