Then you aren't thinking in the terms of that period. This rule places the raped girl with her abuser and under his legal control permanently! That is hardly anyone's idea of a way to \"protect the woman.\" That wasn't the point at all.

The rule was put in place simply to compensate the girl's father for being unable to sell her off as a suitable bride because, having been raped and thus robbed of her (presumed) virginity, she was thus \"damaged goods.\" The girl's father is the one whose legal \"rights\" are being looked after here! She isn't being protected at all; that's not even an incidental consideration. She is simply being treated as a piece of vandalized property.

Funny then that I've seen no court cases where DNA evidence identified a rapist and the fundie family insisted on a forced marriage. Don't even come here and try to pretend fundie girls don't get raped.
