The only real difference between a cult and a religion in my mind is size. So I'd have to say Mormonism is to large to be called a cult.

Mormomism is too big to be a cult now.
"cult" is a just a religion that is small and unpopular. There is no other difference between the two, really.

There are many people, myself included, who don't believe in the Mormon church, but don't think it's a cult, either. The fundies I've known are a LOT weirder than any Mormons I've ever met.

Mormonism is kind of on the bubble of being a cult. It's quite authoritarian, and it demands rather more of its adherents than most religions, but unless Salt Lake reinstitutes blood atonement or the like as a way of dealing with apostates, I don't think the "cult" label quite applies.
(Their office for processing resignations is said to be insanely busy. I think the simple fact that they have such an office kind of disqualifies them from the cult label.)

The splinter groups (Warren Jeffs, etc) can definitely venture out into cult territory, although defining a group by its lunatic fringe would also mean judging Christianity by the Phelps clan and the KKK.
Even though, yeah, Occam's razor would generally argue that Joseph Smith and other founders of the Church of Latter-Day Saints might not have been entirely on the up-and-up, the Elders that I've known and who basically took care of an ailing family friend for years were quite good people and fairly rational, even when discussing religion. So, yeah, I vote fail.

Just as you'd probably think that the Millerites are a cult eh, Ruptured Retards?
...oh wait.
Yes, ladies and germs - conclusive proof that irony is an alien concept to these Americans, at least.

"Seems kind of odd that just about the only people that don't believe that the Mormon church is a cult are the Mormons."
Seems kind of odd that just about the only people that believe that Ruptured Retards would flip-flop, despite their previously stated granite-solid right-wing Christian 'principles' and vote for a Mor(m)on cult member to be their president - who are deluded enough to 'believe' that their 'Anyone but Obama' candidate would win - are those who voted for Obama.
And by the despairing navel-gazing going on in RR, it seems to be a case of 'Anyone
but Romney'. Well, it's too late for that now, Raptards. The damage has been done. The schism in the Repubican party (moderates vs. Religious Reich) is effectively happening with the recriminations, mudslinging & blame game, post-mortem. And via the results in the swing-states, I very much doubt the electorates in those areas will accept any 'Social Conservatives' in the years, nay, decades to come. The 'old order', re. voters dying out, being replaced by subsequent generations with differing attitudes - certainly questioning such - to those before; certainly about abortion, LGBT rights etc.
...oh, and before you start blaming your parlous state, politically, on those not exactly like you (Liberals, Gays, pro-Choicers, even Christians who voted for Obama & so on)

It's
you. Specifically everything you right-wing fundies say/do/
think/'believe'; in other words, what makes you
you. That is the reason you lost, and why you'll continue to lose for the foreseeable future.
It was all of your own making, when you lot voted in Dumbya. Twice. As you sowed, you are now reaping. You've made your socio-fiscal-political bed, Ruptured Retards, Teabaggers, Neocunts & Religious Reich as a whole, you now have no choice but to lie in it.
And that's where you'll ultimately DIE in it. No (C)Rapture for you, Raptards. [/Soup Nazi] >:D
