Residents of the small Arkansas town of Eureka Springs noticed the homosexual community was growing. But they felt no threat. They went about their business as usual. Then, one day, they woke up to discover that their beloved Eureka Springs, a community which was known far and wide as a center for Christian entertainment--had changed. The City Council had been taken over by a small group of homosexual activists.
The Eureka Springs they knew is gone. It is now a national hub for homosexuals. Eureka Springs is becoming the San Francisco of Arkansas. The story of how this happened is told in the new AFA DVD “They’re Coming To Your Town.”
One of the first actions of the homosexual controlled City Council was to offer a “registry” where homosexuals could register their unofficial “marriage.” City Council member Joyce Zeller said the city will now be promoted, not as a Christian resort, but a city “selling peace, relaxation, history and sex.”
AFA’s “They’re Coming ToYour Town” documents the story of how and why this happened. And how homosexual activists plan to do the same in other towns.

Actually, according to wikipedia, Eureka Springs seems to be a place where Christianity and LGBT groups live in relative harmony. It seems like a rather ecletic place to live, and has been for 100+ years.
http://www.eurekasprings.org/
And in nowhere on their promotional website do they promote homosexuality.
However, if anything, homosexuals have always been anywhere people are, they just are oppressed by idiots like you. If anyone makes a documentary name "They're Coming To Your Town", the subject should be about the "Moral Majority" and the "Christian Right".
WOOT MY FIRST ACCEPTED POSTING
Looking at their website, it seems like a nice little town. Maybe a little too touristy for my taste, but if thats what it takes for their small town to survive, so be it.
They have a lot of arts festivals, is that what makes them Gay? Then again they have a fishing derby in April.
Anyway, it has a population < 3,000. How could it be a national hub for homosexuals?
Ok I'm a gay guy in Missouri, not that far from Arkansas.
And yet I have never heard of Eureka Springs until now.
Not much of a "Gay Hub"
Yikes! Those evil, deformed Jews are coming to take over our towns and corrupt our kids.
Oh no, sorry, I misread the post. It's those evil, disgusting homosexuals. Phew! For a moment there I thought the AFA was borrowing propoganda tips from Hilter's Nazi party. My mistake.
Somehow I doubt New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, etc., etc., etc. have anything to worry about.
Teh gays are coming! Teh gays are coming!
Hasn't this already been played out before? We don't want the black/Vietnamese/Jewish etc. people in our community because they'll 'change things!'
I like how they portray homosexuals as this outside alien thing invading their community and not people who just want to be recognized as, you know, people.
But then it seems that some persons have the mentality that if 'teh gays' are not in the closet then they're 'in your face!'
I think there must be something wrong with their internets - when I tried to order this fine-looking DVD, the edit box for 'suggested donation' amount seemed to be read only!!!
I can only hope to G-d that other Christan (TM) online stores are not suffering from the same affliction. I'm a web developer and would love to help in this respect pro bono.
@ArmandT: If you watch the trailer with the sound down, the message can look very different: Teh gays (all of whom dress in rainbow-colored cloths and pink floppy hats, all of the time) are concerned about an invasion of stupid, fat, angry people...
demodocos - all gays are from Mars, aren't they?
Actually, a bit of brief research says it seems quite nice. I could possibly even live there.
One of the first actions of the homosexual controlled City Council was to offer a “registry” where homosexuals could register their unofficial “marriage.”
Yeah, 'cause it's homosexual activists, not fundies, who want to force everyone to follow their own narrow conception of marriage.
I'll just bet the business people in Eureka Springs are delighted with the AFA video. Nothing like a reputation as a bunch of redneck bigots to draw in the tourists [/sarcasm].
Actually, fundies have something of a reputation for coming to a place with a ten dollar bill and the shirt on their back and not changing either.
Ooh, Eureka Springs! I live near there!
Yes, the fundamentalists and the LGBTs and hippies live in relative harmony. The LGBTs let the fundamentalists have their "Great Passion Play" and the fundamentalists let the LGBTs have the gay bars and the like.
I'm shocked how well it works with each group getting along.
(And if you want to get technical, the fundamentalists came here with Gerald L.K. Smith, a batshit insane fundamentalist antisemite in the 1930's. The gays and lesbians have been around way longer.)
Imagine this with typical horror movie narration. It's hilarious.
Only problem, it should have ended with your town, not 'other towns'.
"Doctor Van Homophobe, I have this strange bite mark on my neck, can you look at it?"
"Zis is a hickey! Have you been sleeping with your bedroom vindow open?"
"Well, I was hot..."
"You foolish man! You know as vell as I do that homosexuals stalk the night in Eureka Springs. Now, unless ve can find the homosexual who gave you this and drive a stake through his heart... YOU VILL BECOME VUN YOURSEEEELF!"
"The San Francisco of Arkansas"
criminy! Is that sort of like The South El Monte of East Armpit, New Jersey"?
Horrors, a town in the American south has replaced anti-semitism and racism with respect for everyone. Gee, you would think that they were following JESUS WORDS in the BIBLE or something instead of the what the AFA is telling them is in the BIBLE. Next thing you know they'll be thinking for themselves, cutting off FOXGOPNEWS, and voting liberal.
Yet another sad, dangerous account of Lying for Jeebus. The only way they can make any kind of case--whether it be against books, movies, political and philosophical movements, etc--is to wildly distort the situation, push their people's hot buttons, and outright fabricate facts and figures.
To a skeptical secular humanist who values fairplay in debate and scientific examination, this kind of knowing deception can only be categorized as evil.
First, I had to check to see if there was a real Eureka Springs.
Then, I had to laugh at this summary. A Straight-To-DVD Release if I've ever saw one.
... selling peace, relaxation, history and sex.
Straight sex too? I'll be there by tomorrow at the lastest
Residents of the small town of Happy Springs noticed the Christian community was growing. But they felt no threat. They went about their business as usual. Then, one day, they woke up to discover that their beloved Happy Springs, a community which was known far and wide as a center for logic, science and tolerance--had changed. The City Council had been taken over by a small group of Christian Fundamentalists.
The Happy Springs they knew is gone. It is now a national hub for intolerance and prejudice. The story of how this happened is told in the new DVD “They’re Coming To Ruin Your Town.”
One of the first actions of the Christian controlled City Council was to burn childrens' and science books from the local library. Books like Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia and many books on science and evolution were burned. An order to “register” all homosexuals, atheists, and people of other faiths has been passed by the council. City Council member Fundy McNutter said the city will now be promoted, not as a place of learning and tolerance, but as a Fundamentalist Christian resort, “promoting a 6,000 year old Earth view, Intelligent Design, and open persecution of those who don't follow our beliefs"
^^^^^^^^ Another made up story! ^^^^^^^^^
Craig K. mentioned Gerald LK Smith. I saw an old "March of Time" newsreel from the mid 1930s which featured Smith - one scene had him standing in front of a mirror saying things like "God, let me be a rabble rouser!" and "I get my inspiration from the sky!" It was shot in a way that made him look like Hitlerian (I know, Godwin)... the filmmakers feared Smith would be the next Huey Long.
Run! Run for the hills! Leave the children- there's no time for them. Just grab a few quick necessities, and flee from the ravaging horde of GAYS!!!11!!1
Seriously, this starts off like a bad horror movie. "But they felt no threat. They went about their business as usual. Then one day, they woke up to discover..." Well, at any rate, if there is truly a ravaging horde of gay people who destroy towns one by one, then let us, in the fine words of every great Orc leader since Thrall, raise our voices in saying: "FOR THE HOOOORRRRDDDEE!!
@ Scion:
Homosexual Star Empire? I thought it was the Grande Duchy of the Pink Triangle! Now I have to have my calling cards reprinted. Thanks alot.
@Demodocos and CtraK:
Gays are not found on Mars, they're found in Uranus. Duh.
@Septic Sceptic:
I've read alot of your comments and I find you strangely attractive.
As a gay man I must say I've never heard of Eureka Springs.
Alot of homosexuals live an immoral lifestyle, now I doubt what Fof is saying is mostly likely not true. The gay community needs to really start thinking about their behaviors. HIV/STD rapid among gay/bi under 30. Drug uses, self hatred, and not the homophobics fault, its the gay community who are selfish cowards who are greedy in their own knees. There are alot of gays who are in a safe relationship and don't pracitce sodomy(anal) and I respect them that they have morals. I am techinaly ''bisexual''( I don't like the term cause Im celibacy in the same sex department)and I mentioned that to show that Im not some closet homophobic.
truereligion:
You know, as someone who wishes he was more functionally bisexual, your story rather saddens me. Yes, the gay community does need to tighten up its act -- Dan Savage, one of the most prominent journalists working the sex beat in this country and an openly gay family man himself, has said that, and he's not the only one. But that doesn't make gay sex in and of itself immoral -- there are plenty of homosexual men and women who live perfectly normal lives and don't have destructive sexual and drug proclivities that they give into every time they feel like it.
Seriously, if you're really bi, let yourself enjoy it. Don't be foolish about it -- condoms or whatever, no partying with Tina and then spending the rest of the night pulling a bareback train at some troll's apartment -- but don't deny yourself. Every time I get turned on looking at a dick and then turned off because it's attached to a guy I wish I could go through with it the way I would want to with a woman.
I like the use of "scare quotes." And how it sounds like some crazy, paranoid propaganda video. I like it when they show their true colors.
TrueReligion, just because you're kinda-sorta-almost part of a group does not automatically immune to accusations of hating them. What you just said was extremely ignorant and homphobic. It doesn't matter what your orientation is. Self-loathing is still loathing.
The STD/STI rate may be high among young LGBT people, but is it any higher than it is for straight people? Did you ever stop and think that maybe high rates of drug use and mental-health problems in LGBT people was due to the fact that they often face intense harrassment and prejudice? You're doing an awful lot of victim-blaming.
(Also, how is anal sex inherently immoral?)
My sister lives near Eureka Springs. She says AFA is full of shit.
truereligion:
Anal sex is not inherently immoral. There's nothing specifically condemning it in any religious book, to my knowledge, and it doesn't hurt anyone (any more than vaginal sex, anyway).
Furthermore, AIDS & other STDS are least prevalent in lesbians, and just as prevalent in gay men as straight.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you've been fed a bunch of misinformation and anti-homosexual propaganda to make you feel guilty about your natural sexual tendencies.
I'm bisexual, and I don't have any negative feelings about it. I'm disease-free, responsible when it comes to sex, and happy.
Residents of the small town of Eureka Springs noticed the Negro community was growing. But they felt no threat. They went about their business as usual. Then, one day, they woke up to discover that their beloved Eureka Springs, a community which was known far and wide as a center for Christian entertainment--had changed. The City Council had been taken over by a small group of Negro activists.
The Eureka Springs they knew is gone. It is now a national hub for Negroes. The story of how this happened is told in the new DVD “The Negroes Are Coming To Your Town.”
One of the first actions of the Negro controlled City Council was to offer a “registry” where Negroes could register their unofficial “marriage.”
“The Negores Are Coming To Your Town” documents the story of how and why this happened. And how Negro activists plan to do the same in other towns.
Fixed!
BTW, AFA, you don't begin setences with "and".
That's fucking hilarious.
There are tons of gays in my town. And bis. And trans. And cross dressers. I work in a sex shop, I see them all. I love the open, comfortable, happy ones... Great customers, nice people. I feel sad for the guys that spend an hour looking longingly at the gay porn, then sadly pick up some random straight porn movie and buy it. I imagine they're the ones that come up with shit like this.
12/10/2012. The Passion Play closed in bankrupcy due to the lack of attendance. The American Family Association told people to boycott Eureka Springs, Arkansas because of pro gay politics and closed a long running telling of the end of Christ's life. Bizarre the Christian Community would turn on itself. Hope the AFA is proud and happy. Oh, just a note, tourism is up this year for the town
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
