[Referring to J.K. Rowling]
Because she's a member of the Church Of Scotland, believes in God, and does a lot of good things? Sorry, that doesn't make anyone a Christian.

So, she belongs to a christian church, believes in your god, and does a lot of good things...and this doesn't make her a christian?
What does she have to do, sacrifice her first born son as a burnt offering? Shoot gender dysphoric teens in the back of the head? Murder a doctor who performs abortions?
When did christianity become an exclusive country club, the membership of which is under your control??
You're right, of course. J K Rowling isn't a willfully ignorant, death worshipping, life hating bigot, so she can't be a true Christian.
Congratualtions! You're the 1,000,000,000th person to claim that a Christian is actually of a different religion simply because you're a retarded fuckwit that can't tell fiction from reality!
Well, yes, actually it does.
Church-goer? Check
Believer? Check
Good acts? Check
That about covers the requirements.
Oh, you mean she doesn't count because she's not part of your tiny little exclusive cult?
Get a grip on reality and realise that there are numerous Christian sects worldwide, who all share the belief that Jesus is the Messiah, who genuinely believe themselves to be Christians, and they have you loony-fringe lot out-numbered tens of thousands to one.
The only difference is, most of them aren't running around behaving like a pack of rabid dogs, and are content to try to lead good lives, pray, share their faith in a non-bigoted way, and project the image of a loving saviour to the world.
If heaven exists (and that's a whole other debate), I'm ready to take bets on who'll get in the gate, and it won't be your ilk, RejectedDreams.
Part of me still thinks DBoyWheeler was the worst fundie on DA. Not only is he a fundie, but his work is like something a first-grader would make. The fact that he's around 25 and draws at this level is a little sad.
Though this guy's almost as bad.
Just because you were born in England, lived your whole life in England, speak English, hold an English passport, and call yourself English... sorry, that doesn't make you English.
So basically she's going to hell, even though she believes in God and does good things, just because she wrote a book about wizards? Wow. God is good and merciful, all right.
I'm not much for JKR's writings, but the woman herself rocks, IMHO. Whether her religious beliefs have anything to do with that or not, I neither know nor care.
ninjacat11: You made me curious. I had to go check out his work. Wow... This is why I don't draw and post it on the web. I know well enough that my drawing is crap, and nobody needs to see it. It's probably somewhere on the level of that guy. The fact that he has enough balls to post - and be proud of - that level of work is just sort of...astounding.
I'd be happy if my daughter, by first grade, is drawing like that. A 20-some year old? Not so much. :P
Vicious bigotry, vainglory, ignorance, pantophobia...those seem to be the criteria.
Username pretty much sums it up.
Well, to get technical, this is true. What makes you a Christian is following Christ. I have known, for example, members of other faiths who attended church with their Christian SOs. So, church--check. Belief in God--check. Good works--check. But it still doesn't make you a Christian. I mean, it helps, obviously, but it's not the defining factor.
Beyond the technical aspects... why does anybody care one way or another? They're fiction, for heaven's sake. If you don't like the message in the HP books, don't read them.
@#440993: Yes, because writing a series of harmless fantasy books is the equivalent of embezzling money, physically abusing children, and ordering mass genocide. Get a grip.
Wrong.
In order to be christian all one has to do is believe that christ died for your sins and came back.
JKRowling is a devil-whore, she'll die.
Your a horrible troll.
@440993
So someone writing a series of books about the importance of friends, and effort, and how quick power can corrupt is bad, but spewing bile over the internet about a good person is right?
Thank god I don't subscribe to your beliefs.
Rejected Dreams went further with this...
Because I was raised a Christian and I read the bible quite a lot
A person raised in a Christian home isn't automatically a Christian, that's not how it works.
but I was a Christian, and went through my communion
Isn't Holy Communion a Catholic sacrament?
(Um...Last I checked, Catholicism is a subset of Christianity...)
last I check, a Christian is someone who believes in Christ. JK believes in Christ, therefore she is Christian.
Christianity is not about simply believing that God/Jesus is real(A person doesn't become a Christian by checking a box that asks:"do you believe in God? Yes/No"). Even Satan and every fallen angel believes in Christ, and look how lost they are.
...
"Believes in" as in "thinks what he espouses is the true and proper way", right? I doubt Satan would be attempting usurpation if this was the case with him...Might be more "Yes, you're boss...*for now*."
I agree with RejectedDreams. Doing a lot of good things doesn't have anything to do with Christianity.
I wouldn't say that I'm "disappointed" that J.K. Rowling is a woman of faith - I don't find anything wrong with faith, in *theory*, and Rowling manages not to be bigotted asshole, and thinks for herself. But I guess it's no surprise that people want to say that she's not "really" a Christian.
Who knew the fruit that Jesus spoke of would be narrow-mindedness and hate?
@#441859 and #442140: You're calling GigaGuess a hypocrite? Who's the one going on forums and spewing hateful bile about homosexuals and J.K. Rowling? You two (or if you're the same person, just you) are so twisted, it's comical. In a black comedic sort of way.
@#447074: How lovely, you crack an insult about my supposed sexual orientation without knowing anything about me. It wouldn't matter to you that I'm straight? I suppose you're the type of person who goes around calling everyone you don't like a Jew without knowing anything about their religion or lack thereof.
Ugh, I've wasted a few minutes replying to your ignorant nonsense. I have a feeling that I'm only indulging your pitiful cries for attention. Oh, well, at least your response gave me a laugh.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooow, what ever happened to the verse "Judge not, that ye be not judged" or do you think it is another misunderstood verse in the bible! What an idiot! This is what made me agnostic in the first place!
