That's not exactly a nonbiased way of looking at it. Don't forget, at the time Messiahs were a dime a dozen in Judea. Most Jews of the day probably didn't know or care who Jesus was (John the Baptist was quite a bit more famous at the time), and the authorities (both Jewish and Roman) probably saw nothing more than a crowd control problem, to be disposed of in Pontius Pilate's typical carelessly brutal manner.
