[In a debate on Iraqi TV]
The sun circles the Earth because it is smaller than the Earth, as is evident in Koranic verses.
Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours.
What I say is based on Koranic science. He bases his arguments on the kind of science that I reject categorically -- the modern science that they teach in schools. This science is a heretic innovation that has no confirmation in the Koran. No verse in the Koran indicates that the Earth is round or that it rotates. Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false.

Her-e-tic, her-e-tic!
Sorry, but all I can think of is how badass the Arbiter is.
That, and how 'special' the first few sentences are.
So, anything not mentioned in the Koran is false?
Your words are false, because the internet and computers are not mentioned there.
You are false, because you are not mentioned in the Koran.
OR, you are one simple fuck.
You pick.
That is one impressive bit of PHAIL.
Why is the Koran true? Nobody knows.
So why is it considered true, then? Nobody knows either.
EDIT: For all that is holy, unholy and everything else. Watch the video. Watch it.
Five times a day...nose on the floor, arse in the air...
Someone's religion is structured so that it is impossible for its believers to have time to engage in any critical thinking.
It's clear that Fadhel Al-Sa'd won't be nominated for any Nobel prize any time soon.
Wahhabi Mullah wanna-be?
"Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false."
Everything you have just said is false.
This would be sad if it wasn't so damn funny.
So if the sun is smaller than the Earth, how close must it be to provide that much heat and light?
Maybe that's why humans only grow to about 5-6 feet; natural selection filtered out the really tall ones when they hit their head on the sun and burned their eyes out.
"Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours."
I find this ironic in that skeptics who don't believe in God will often say things to the effect of "seeing is believing," yet here we have a religious fundamentalist taking that same philosophy too literally ("the sun appears to be moving across the sky, therefore it is").
Although, shouldn't it be every hour or so, rather than every 24 hours?
So Television is false? Computers, the internet, the modern printing press... all false?
OmiAllah, I've been living a lie!
It's that 10% that accounts for the rancor. Sharp-line Moslems see Christians as compromising God's glory by making Jesus equal to him (proper, unalloyed glory can only come if absolutely everything else that exists is inferior to him--Jesus included); to such, the Trinity concept is nothing more than thinly veiled tritheism. Sharp-line Christians, meanwhile, think Muhammad a false prophet (often of the intentionally deceitful, not sincerely mistaken, variety), and that Allah is not the same as Yhwh, meaning that Moslems are not properly directing glory to him (sincere belief that they ARE the same being utterly irrelevant), especially since they refuse to regard Jesus as divine and glory-worthy. (Never mind that glory is pretty hollow to begin with...) To both sets of sharp-liners, that their philosophies are largely consonant is irrelevant; the issue of properly directing glory and worship outweighs that consonance. Do they then think that morality's sole purpose is to catalyze God's glorification?
Back to al-Sa'd...{sigh} I'd just like to ask him why God gave humanity free will and the capacity to learn. I hardly think they were just taints instilled by Eblis!
1) The Koran is a very small part of Muslim doctrine and to rely on it exclusively is to make your understanding of your own history pathetically myopic.
2) Whoa! Above and beyond simply ignoring things that disagree with the Koran, they'll settle for anything that isn't at least implied in the Koran itself! This is possibly a new frontier.
P.S. I've heard that it's odd how most Muslim cultures is just how revered Mohammad is. For a religion that teaches the major corruption of Christianity was its worship of Jesus as more than human, it seems hypocritical.
It is depressing to see that stupidity is universal and no respecter of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality or religion.
If there is a god, he has a lot to answer for.
@Skyknight .
Kudos. Excellent post.
However, I'd point out that the Xian 'trinity concept' is just that; a 'concept', a Xian equivalent of 'one hand clapping'.
Show me someone who claims to understand it in any sort of meaningful way and I'll show you a damn liar ;)
Shallow science I think, the Koranic one. It's a miracle we have survived so far if the sun, the main supplier of energy, is smaller than the earth(looking from inside, doesn't count as science)and it turned around the earth, not the other way round(By the way, it's also superficial. The sun DOESN'T MOVES)
Interesting. So the Koran apparently mentions every existing thing and anything not mentioned is false? How do you get past the keyboard, mouse, computer, monitor, and incandescent/flopurescent lights, and electricity you certainly used just to post this ridiculous assertion?
David D.G.:
Yes and no. The voice of the science community makes the evidence NICE. AND. CLEAR. AND. EASY. TO. UNDERSTAND. But fundies being what they are, Fadhel just ploughs right on, totally unfazed. The debate concludes with the above quote, so you can see how convinced he was...
"Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false."
You say this while using the internet and a video camera on youtube, none of which has any indication in the koran that it should work. Shouldn't you be living as a hermit in the mountains or something?
I give up. If mankind wants to live in the feudal ages so bad, I'll let them. Go ahead, let the rich and powerful manipulate you. I don't care anymore. I try to let you in on the truth, but you obviously don't care. It doesn't even really matter anymore what God you pray to, you are all stupid and deserve oppression. Scientologists, Christians, Muslims, all the same, I don't care about you people anymore. You are asking for the hell you've made this planet into. I just don't understand why people want to be dominated so bad, but hey, there it is.
Well...strictly speaking, the Sun DOES move. The Milky Way isn't exactly static, after all. With relation to US, though, there isn't much of a vector...
Be careful, the translation came from MEMRI. Not exactly an unbiased source. My Arabic isn't good enough for me to tell if it's a proper translation, but that organization has been known to distort things.
It's a well-recognized principle in dogmatic lunacy that the closer the positions held by two dogmatic lunatics, the more vicious their mutual emnity.
E.g., the rivalry between the two big Abrahamic subdivisions. If there were five hundred million Jews in the world, they'd be wading into the slugfest, too, I have no doubt. Doctrinal differences within a religion - Shi'a vs. Sunni, Catholic vs. Protestant - can be even more inflammatory.

From Father Ted:
Ted: 'This cow is small, but those ones are FAR AWAY!'
Dougal: 'No, sorry Ted. I still don't get it.'
"Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false."
Excuse me? Could you point to the bit in the Koran about polar bears? How about penguins? And I'm sure that it should be easy to find the bit about cigarettes? The internal combustion engine? the internet? how about the kangaroo? oh wait, what about the tellytubbies?
There are stupid people everywhere it seems =p,
tho @claissic well it seems you fail at understanding muslim religion if you think they are being hypocrite on that one (just talking about their prophet and jesus), again there are stupid ppl everywhere fundie or not xD
Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours.
When I visit an amusement park, and take a ride in the carousel, earth also moves. It moves around me in only a few seconds! Ergo I am the center of the universe, and earth revolves around ME!
So much for "relative frames of reference". A term from "heretic" science, Mr. Fadhel Al-Sa'd. BTW: Your beloved Koran is worthless. Accept it and arrive in the 21st century, or get hopelessly left behind.
I just watched the video on youtube, WOW.....just WOW. but what got me was the comment below from no more than a week ago, and i quote.....
"Wow what an idiot.
For a start the horizon is an illusion caused by dark energy bending light upwards because the atmosphere is a gradient.. think "mirage"
The sun is infact only 32 miles in diameter and shines downwards like a lamp
A photo isn't proof of anything.. if it was you could prove anything, like the NASA conspiracy has, with doctored footage. I could prove star wars (satanic) happened if a photo meant anything.
And god is god, not some arab, the koran is just? dirty"
*headdesk*
Confused?
