Pshaw! Everyone knows that there was absolutely no moral code before the Bible was written. People were just killing each other and eating shellfish indiscriminately back then.

You do realize that most of those ideals came from Hammurabi's Code, right?

So, if I were to crack open one of the several bibles I own, I could find, more or less, our legal system? Pardon me, but I don't recall the part of the bible that allows for a jury trial of one's peers, appeals codes, or any number of things.

Habeas Corpus isn't in the Bible either. Maybe that's why Bush wanted to get rid of it so badly.

But given the common threads you're babbling about (excuse the pun) originated at an earlier date in India, if there's any plageurism, it's yours!
Praise be to Vishnu...

We don't make rape victims marry their rapists.
That's in the Bible.

There identical to the laws in every culture and religion in the world. Don't kill the people in your clan/tribe/civilization.
Of course anyone else is fair game (as the bible clearly states).
BTW our laws are based on Roman laws, not Christian. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around that, but try.

WOW. YOU FAIL.

Omfg, you're joking, right? If the bible is the foundation of morality, then that sky up there is a lovely shade of rose pink. You know, the color of those glasses you wear.

Numerous civilizations that predate your bible had codes of conduct for their citizens, codes that included prohibitions against murder, theft, rape, that sort of thing. Your bible is a late entry in the moral code game.

And what do all religions have in common? (Hint: The psychology of the people who created them!)
2/26/2008 7:26:21 AM
"I find that very telling of the source of all morals..."
So do I. It isn't your book, which is in infancy compared to some of the other religions mankind has had over the eons.
2/26/2008 7:32:47 AM
"You can find parts of the Bible's moral code in basically all other religions."
Yes, so much so that the Bible's so-called Golden Rule (do unto others etc.) found its way into the teachings of Confucius in the FIFTH CENTURY BC.

If it were true, Randall Terry, Clinton or Rush Limbaugh would be stoned for adultery. Britney Spears would be stoned too for not being a virgin and like 2/3 of American population for working on Sabbath. And incidentally, is there any other religion where people are killed for not going to the Synagoge on Sabbath, for eating lobster or for disobeying their parents?. Hey, it's common sense.
2/26/2008 8:53:36 AM
It's funny, how can civilisation such as China, Sumer or Egypt sustain their morals in the Bible if they PREDATE the Bible?. Are they basing their morals in a book which they don't know and doesn't exist?

A = B = C = D, therefore A, C, and D are copies of B.

And it would also seem a lot of other religions predate yours.... I wonder who really copied whom?
2/26/2008 10:17:23 AM
Because without the good bible we'd all be on a murderous rampage right now...

2/26/2008 11:00:06 AM
Uh, right, when Christianity spread to other parts of the world the missionaries had a terrible time convincing the Celts, Greeks and others to stop murdering each other whenever they felt like it. They couldn't imagine a prohibition on murder.

Another common thread a laws abd religions, men wrote them all
