Quote# 35572

have any atheists ever done a THING for the betterment of mankind? NAME ONE. They certainly can't just BE...no they have to FORCE their views on us all by tearing down every decent institution in the country because they are "offended". They do it so cowardly too by using the bought and paid for court system so that we the people have no say in the matter.

Hey, what decent institutions are we tearing down, and why didn't someone call me so I could join in?

Mister Spak

"have any atheists ever done a THING for the betterment of mankind? NAME ONE. "

The internet you posted this on. Of course the fact that the internet allows christians to vomit their bile on everyone makes me think maybe the atheists made a mistake on this one.

According to a history of the spread of Christianity in the 4th - 8th centuries I've been reading, poor relief suffered when Christians started to take over. The pagans had an effective system going which fell apart when their religion was made illegal.

So Christians forced their views on everyone and tore down every decent institution in the Roman empire. They went about it in a cowardly way, too, getting into positions of power and forcing their will on the rest of the populace.

Inventions by atheists that have helped "mankind"?

Well a lot of medicine... A seriously large amount of medicine.

Golden Rice (Saves around 5000 Plus people a day from death by beri beri)

I think that should be enough.

And I think you are confusing decent institutions with your personal clubs which you use to convert people...

have any atheists ever done a THING for the betterment of mankind? NAME ONE.

Thoma A. Edison, inventor of Lightbulb, phonograph etc

Paul Lauterbur, inventor of MRI.

Bill Gates, perpetrator err inventor of Windoze

Yeah, I know, you wanted one, but here's three, in case you ignore the first two.

By using legal means and logic? Those cowards! What happens when you try to confront a fundie with logic (and the law)? "He bravely ran away, away".

2/28/2008 12:12:45 PM

By the way everyone, I'm not using a Bill Gates machine, but that's okay, because Linus Torvalds is an atheist, too.

I'm pagan as my beliefs are non Abrahamic. I find more Christians to be offended by atheists and pagans such as myself. You tear down everything non Christian. Atheists say believe what you will generally. You force your views on me more than the athesits.

Oh and

Stephen Hawking

both were atheists.

2/28/2008 2:10:30 PM

Robert Ingersoll, bitch.

2/28/2008 2:29:41 PM

Ernst Hemingway, Ambrose Bierce, Bob Geldof, Linus Torvalds, Penn Jilette...

Mark Twain (notable author).
Ian McKellen (actor and civil rights advocate).
Claude Shannon (founder of the theory behind digital circuits).
Alan Turing, the "father of computer science."

Need I go on?

we the people have no say in the matter

"We the people" are the first words of the US Constitution - the document that tells the government to keep its nose out of religion and established the Supreme Court to interpret such things.

I haven't heard of any Atheist missionaries going to other countries and cultures trying to force their views on anyone. I've never had an Atheist knock on my door trying to hand out propaganda to support their cause. I've never had an Atheist protest an event I attended because it was "un Atheist". I've never known Atheist organizations to declare war on a gropu of people for their beliefs. I've never known an Atheist to preach death and destruction upon people who differ from them.

Christians, on the other hand....

Who forces their views upon whom?

"They certainly can't just BE...no they have to FORCE their views on us all by tearing down every decent institution in the country because they are "offended"."

You clearly have no idea what fundies do that atheists find offensive, or you would know that we actually leave those things alone, as much as they horrify us. To name but a few;

- Your right as a parent to utterly ruin your child's life by filling their head with gibberish in homeschool lessons, and keeping them so overprotected from the real world that they are unable to function in society upon reaching adulthood.

- Your right to attempt to sabotage an authors livelihood because their subject matter touches on an area that sends you off into a spiral of hysterical end-times madness.

- Your use of brainwashing to convince women that they're sinners unless they are cutting the umbilical cord of their seventeeth child with one hand and grilling their husband a steak with the other.

- Your utter hypocricy and insistance on re-interpreting the Bible to suit whatever lies in your favour at that moment. Which will usually involve the donating of money.

The only time you'll get your beliefs beaten back into the dark ages they emerged from is when they infringe on the lives of people who are trying to get by without your worldview. That's why you're seeing creationism get dumped out of classrooms on it's ass, because it's getting in our way as we try to actually make some progress for the good of the species overall.

You have every right to entertain yourself with your delusions in your own religious circles, but don't bring it on the rest of us, or you'll get force-fed your Bible. And it won't even be atheists that are doing it, it'll be the collective voice of common sense.

Now lets see, what about scientists you retard! Yes, there are lots of Christian scientists but I think that there are more of those who are atheists

I can think of one thing they HAVEN'T done, and it's force their beliefs on someone who isn't interested.

Father Heathen

What have atheists done for the betterment of mankind? Most of the scientists that have developed modern day technology and medicine are atheists.
What have you religious people done other than spread bigotry and try to undermine education, rights, and freedom?

Or he would say that it doesn't count because wikipedia is liberally biased.

You never asked your own question.
