[Responding to the notion Pagans use human sacrifices]

So why might I ask would you believe in a religion that has sacrificed millions of people ?

And please do not bring up the Crusades, your pagan religion has killed many more people. How many wars have Chrstians started? Not any in the past several hundred years or even more than that.

As a Christian whose ancestors were pagan, I can safely say that you have no idea what you're talking about.

As the saying goes, this person doesn't even deserve to see my neurons firing.

2/28/2008 11:00:17 PM

A long time ago, when I was a Pagan, my dad told me with a straight face that Wicca revolved around human sacrifice.

2/28/2008 11:18:27 PM

Er, so Christianity hasn't been the root cause of any wars for several centuries eh?

Cast your mind back to the mid-17 Century & the Wars of Religion that raged across Europe, the English Civil Wars being in a large part caused by the strife in Europe.

I love how Yankee Fundies have absolutely no grasp of history!

2/28/2008 11:27:31 PM

Pagans have not sacrificed millions of people. Christians, on the other hand, killed thousands if not millions of pagans for the sin of refusing to convert.

Perhaps you'd like to try out the new and revised "history book". Now featureing actual events.

It's got to be better than what you've been reading.

tmr, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition to be brought up!

Blaidd Drwg

NO ONE Expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!!

2/29/2008 1:34:49 AM

Let's look at Britain! Nothing embarrassing for Christians there!

2/29/2008 1:48:30 AM

Also Ive heard lots of y'all believing the end of the world is in 2012 and who came up with that? Oh the Mayans slaughtered for not converting. And if they were right they also believed that human sacrifice was the only way to prevent the sun god from smiting us.

Anyhoo...add pretty much every indiginous tribe around before the Christian Spaniards (which the Incan and Aztec gods were kind enough to foretell before it happened) and oh my Cherokee ancestors(and all native americans) were fucked over by Christians...but I guess history stopped being relevant once the Crusades occured.

Northern Ireland.

When was the last time you heard of a Wiccan committing murder?

2/29/2008 3:49:00 AM

I can see where you might be coming from, Pagan does incorporate non Abrahamic religions and beliefs (like mine for example), Though it's been said, the IRA and the Protestants (though I'd say more the latter than the earlier, the IRA is based more on their political not their spiritual motivations) in Ireland. In Africa there has been fighting between Muslims and Christians.India is Christian, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim(though Christians there are more subject to being targeted)

They always forget Yugoslavia and IRA.

Pretty sure Christianity is completely based on the idea of human (or half human half god) sacrifice.

Hitler the christian started a really big war less than 100 years ago. How did you manage to miss that?

2/29/2008 12:48:32 PM

here are some of those good christian values:

"And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the Lord, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter” (1 Samuel 6:19). - 50070 people dead because people dares to try to "look" at the ark of the covenant.

“And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offering, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord” (1 Kings 8:63). 22,000 ox and 120,000 sheep as a blood sacrifice (not humans but still)

And Asa had an army of men . . . And there came out against them Zera the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand . . . Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power, help us, O Lord our God . . . So the Lord smote the Ethiopians” (2 Chronicles 14:8-12) - god killed 1,000,000 ethiopians just for giggles.

"Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand" (1 Corinthians 10:8). - 23,000 killed in 1 day for fornicating. i know he doesnt like that and all, but kinda harsh doncha think.

"And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel, And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. . . . And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. . . . So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men" (1 Chronicles 21:1-14). 70,000 dead just because David wanted a census.

“And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor [sic], Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God” (2 Samuel 6:6-7; see also 1 Chronicles 13:9-10). some guy tried to stop the ark from falling when an oxen shook it. for DARING to stop it from falling god smote him down.

And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them" (2 Kings 2:23-24). god killed 42 kids just for making fun of a guys "shiny" head.

"27 David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented the full number to the king so that he might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.

28 When Saul realized that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David, 29 Saul became still more afraid of him, and he remained his enemy the rest of his days. " (1 Samuel 18:27-29) - good christians cut off 200 enemy foreskins as a gift to their future father in laws.

“And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried, they shall be dung upon the ground” (Jeremiah 25:33). when all is said and done, god says the number he will kill will cover the face of the earth. fun!

aww shucks. im sure i could find plenty more if i really looked. unfortunately only had time to grab the ones right off the top of my head

2/29/2008 1:02:35 PM

in other countries there are christians living side bye side pagans and other religions without conflict cause they understand to each their own.. is that sin? to love thy neighbor even if he isnt christian like you are?

What, so the war in Iraq is nothing? You know Bush did specifically say he was on a mission from God.

Even ignoring the crusades, the Bible is soaked in stories of God commanding the murder and/or rape of various peoples.

2/29/2008 6:07:51 PM

We all know that if a christian does a bad thing, the rest can just say "Well they weren't REALLY christian, now were they?" and carry on. But if someone belonging to some other group, race, or religion does something bad, they are all of a sudden a perfect example and representative of the whole of their people. Fundamentalist christian thought is rife with double standards, ignorance, and outright lies.

2/29/2008 9:05:32 PM

Now now,

While it's true that George W. Bush said he was on a mission from God, I hasten to remind you that the Blues Brothers said the very same thing.
