"I'm sure that dictionary would be all but impossible to find in a school today. But there was a time years ago, when Bible reading and prayer was actually part of the public school curriculum."
[Thank goodness those times are gone. School is secular because not every child is Christian, and shouldn't be required to participate in the religion to become an educated person. If people want religion in their education they can go to a private school focused on that.]
"Have you ever looked at the statistics of youth related school violence since God was taken out of the classroom? So is it any surprise that Eric Harris, on the day of the Columbine killings, wore a t-shirt that read "NATURAL SELECTION"?"

The shooting was how these 2 boys reacted to Bullying.
"Everyone with a white cap or baseball cap, stand up!" and "All jocks stand up! We'll get the guys in white hats!" (wearing a white baseball cap at Columbine was a tradition amongst sports team members)

They also suffered from Depression.
Also they were both army brats, so maybe having parents in the military does this to you? There are a lot of socio-economic factors that could be taken into evidence. But everyone just gleans onto whatever simple answer fits their agenda.
Violence, overall, has gone down in schools. Media attention of violence in schools, overall, has gone up, giving some people the opposite impression.
If there was no media attention, it would mean that it was ~common~ and that would be really bad.
Yeah, yeah, it's always those evil non-believers fault, but if christians are in the majority in this world, then that statistic clearly states that most bullshit going on in this world is their fault, so shut the fuck up.
He was in a very religious environment and here in Europe, where all the schools are secular, those tragedies are unheard. And go to any library and to any school. You can find ANY version of the dictionary and the Bible of your choice.
Yes, there was a time when Bible reading and compulsory [Christian] prayers were found in schools. Turns out that's unconstitutional. It is more than likely that any classroom population represents a variety of religons, and all taxpayers support the schools, not just Christian taxpayers. Further, there is no logical connection between the absence of prayers in school and school shootings. It's well known among serious scholars that school shootings are caused by the drastic decline in the study of Greek and Latin.
What's with the dictionary thing? Even if that were true, which it's not because pretty well every teacher has at least one dictionary in their room and I only have trouble attaining one due to construction, what the HELL does that have to do with removing religion from the school system?
Yeah and Hitler's "Deathcamp SS" guards wore belt buckles that said "God is with us", so what is your point?PS No fundie should ever mention a dictionary around non-fundies, it is digraceful how few fundies know simple definitions like religion, atheism, big-bang, evolution, literal, science, logic, circular arguement, and any other religion's beliefs.
Even if he was wearing that (I remain skeptical), it makes perfect sense. It has nothing to do with evolution, think about it, the fittest are surviving.
You can't show a correlation between school violence and the removal of Bible reading and school prayer. Violence in schools has risen since the introduction of fluorecent lighting. By your "logic" the rise in the per capita consumption of kiwi fruit in the U.S. may have caused an increase in school violence. Just becaue one thing happens before another, that doesn't show one caused the other.

Is it any surprise that you made that up?
There was a time when only the trained and learned were allowed to read the Bable, since they new way back then if ever white trash or the ignorant were to read it they would not understand that it was just stories and then the hoi polloi would get confused and bring chaos and stupidity to the world. They were right.
fundamentalists delenda est
@Lithp
What's with the dictionary thing?
She's talking about the dictionary's from the 50's where if you looked up Jesus, the definition was "Our lord and saviour". It also defined Homosexuality as a mental disease and masturbation as self-mutilation.
My brother found one of these at an old book sale, it's actually a fairly entertaining read.
@#450273
Is it any surprise that you made that up?
Actually Harris was.
Yes, but that was ONE kid who was incredibly fucked-up and took the idea of evolution WAY beyond what is was supposed to mean.
Like how fundamentalists take the words of the Bible or the Qu'ran to ultimate extremes and kill others in their Gods' name.
The Bible is morality on shaky grounds. If someone is brought up with the Bible as the only reason for morality the moment they realize it's just a book written by man they will have no idea of morality.
Teaching people about human rights like the right to life is more likely to prevent someone from going on a killing spree.
"Have you ever looked at the statistics of youth related school violence since fundies took over the media? So is it any surprise that Seung-Hui Cho, on the day of the Virginia Tech killings, taped a rant about Jesus Christ"?"
Fixed.
God was in my classroom. As a matter of fact, that was the reason I WAS bullied. Skip prayer one day because you've got fucking laryngitis, and the next day you're a devil worshipper. Shove that "prayer solves school problems" attitude up your ass, because you probably never had a school problem worse than failing a science quiz because you wrote goddidit for every answer.
>>He was in a very religious environment and here in Europe, where all the schools are secular, those tragedies are unheard.<<
I suspect that a more relevant difference between Europe and the US is that it is much easier to get guns in the US.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
