If you think you see contradictions in God’s word, it’s because your understanding of it is limited.

Or maybe because those who haven't dedicated their lives to the idea that there are no contradictions are able to see more clearly.
Most of the "explanations" intended to wave away the contradictions are ludicrous.
Then everyone's understanding of it is limited. Over the past 1600 years, there has NOT been a single case where everyone agreed on the content...with the possible exception of the era when the popes and archbishops had Europe and Byzantium in lockdown.
My understanding tells me that the bible was assembled with the express purpose of being a handy-dandy justification for major bloodshed, widespread ignorance, and undue influence to the "literate" losers who were never kings or conquerors but wanted to push people around anyway.
Yes, and clearly the finest gold thread is invisible when woven into stately garments and viewed by people of limited understanding!
Get over your conceit and vanity and realise you've been had!
Fundie to English dictionary sez:
"limited (syn)thorough, logical, rational"
"If you think you see contradictions in God’s word, it’s because your understanding of it is limited."
Sadly, I've heard this before. Apparently they seem to think it's a real silver bullet of some sort.
"How do you argue with attitudes like that?"
It's times like this that I like to pull out my sig line...
"You cannot reason someone out of a position they did not reason themselves into."
'You see a problem with what is written because your understanding is limited.'
Is it just me or is this a display of supreme arrogance? I mean seriously, where does someone who's life revolves around deliberately refusing to think about things get off trying to convince us that they're smarter than us?
Luckily my book, Better Understanding Your Bible, has just gone on sale for the very reasonable price of £24.99!
C'mon, open your wallets! You don't want to go to Hell, do you?
Wow. Nice little blanket statement that basically covers any argument for any issue anyone might want to use the Bible for either. There's a sort of inherent beauty in a line of reason so blatantly illogical yet so mightily useful whenever a debater might find oneself backed into a corner.
"Don't understand why Jesus wants us to have assault rifles? Don't quite grasp how one can use religion to justify both the death penalty and a pro-life stance? Can't find the passage that supports going to war with any country? Well that's because your understanding is just too damned limited!"
I've got to admit; there's a sort of charm in not having to prove any statement one makes ever. That being said, this quip is an arrogant piece of self-centered drivel that adequately summarizes that about fundie-ism which I hate most. Right-o!
If you don't see contradictions in the bible, it is because your understanding of reality is limited.
EDIT: I see Papabear beat me to it... oh well.
It's the same tired argument used for faith healing. If it works, it's a miracle. If it doesn't, and it doesn't in most cases, the sick person wanting help was just weak in their faith. You can't win against a closed mind like this.
Matthew 1: 2-17 vs Luke 3: 23-38
Romans 1:3 vs Galatians 4:4
Matthew 2:1 vs Luke 2:2
Matthew 2: 21-23 vs Luke 2:4
Luke 1:44 vs Luke 7: 18-23
Want me to carry on ?
I see contradictions in the buybull, because I've actually read the bloody book!!!
If you don't see contradictions in the Bible, then your understanding of it is limited. I'm a Christian, and I'm fine admitting that the Bible has contradictions.
Here's an example:
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4)
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)
So, if it's pleasing to God that all people are saved, and God accomplishes what he pleases, then why aren't all people saved?
OK.
Where does "Thou shalt not kill" fit in?
Didnt your god tell people to kill?
Didnt your god slay most of the population in a massive rain storm?
No contradictions? WITHOUT using neo-christian bullshit please tell me where the lack of contradiction lies.
PUHLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!
2 Samuel 23:6
The ... chief among the captains ... he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time. 1 Chronicles 11:11
The chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.
Yeah, I guess there's no real contradiction between three hundred and eight hundred; after all, this is God-breathed scripture, the inerrant word of God. There's no contradiction; we simply don't understand that three hundred and eight hundred are really the same number.
Confused?
