I'm not sure where but the Bible says that the Word is only understood by those who have the ears to hear it... Kind of a circular argument, but OK by me now that I believe. When I did not believe, the arguments made absolutely no sense to me.

Kind of a circular argument You're so close and yet so far. You're aware, I trust, that other parts of the Bible say that we can and should rely on the plain meaning.
This kind of statement actually scares me. What if I wake up one day, and just "believe?" I'd like to think that I'm immune, or somewhat resistant to brainwashing, but maybe we take the ability to think critically for granted.
The fact that you don't know where in the babble it says that tells us that you believe what somebody "told" you, rather than finding this "truth" on your own, through study. Doesn't it bother you that you "know" it's circular logic?
WTF? How can you believe in something that you can't understand?
Huh. It all looks like crazy gibberish to me, but what do I know, I'll stake my whole life around it, just to be on the safe side.
Well, at least this person will admit that it only makes sense because it matches what he or she believes in the first place. Newlamb at least acknowledges it is a circular argument and that it wouldn't make any sense at all to nonbelievers.
Although I don't think that Newlamb is making an intelligent point here, and would agree that Newlamb seems to have thrown at least some of his or her reason out the window, I don't think this is really Fundie. Newlamb is able to empathize with nonbelievers and concede that some of what he or she believes is circular logic.
This doesn't sound like the sort of person who is completely insane or who wants to force his or her beliefs on everyone. This sounds more like someone who has a rather "live and let live" attitude. Maybe Newlamb has shown himself or herself to be a Fundie elsewhere, but in no way is this comment Fundie. Most of the Christians I love and respect would probably take a similar stance. This sounds more like an ordinary, moderate Christian -- not a Fundamentalist.
Which of course is a big part of the con. If you really believe you don't question any of it, blind faith being more prominant in the fundamentalists beliefs, NO arguments or examples of inherent contradictions will cause doubt in you. Belief is paramount, especially in the fundamentalist literalist sects, mainly because they can't argue them so insist that you're not to even try. They concentrate on the virtue of blind faith.
But this is a yoke you and your clergy have hung on yourselves, We Atheists or Christians that consider the books parables written by men and not absolutely literal (which they can't be with contradictions) don't have to ignore the unresolvable problems in the Bible.
Newton couldn't resolve them and I promise you, there's no Newtons in fundamentalist clergy, they actually villify knowledge.

those who have the ears to hear it... Kind of a circular argument , but OK by me now that I believe. When I did not believe, the arguments made absolutely no sense to me. "
Lord Ashley , who, with his Cochlear Implant, hardwired into the hearing centres of the brain, was the first true cyborg politician had - via science - bypassed what was given to him by 'God' as you fundies would claim, then it rather fucks up your argument (s) does it not...?! As even your own 'Word of God' bypasses - and thus destroys itself, doctrine-wise - John 14:6, when re. Jews, Romans 11:26-32 contradicts that.
'When I did not believe, the arguments made absolutely no sense to me', you say? Yeah. You can ask ex-long time Christian Jonathan Edwards about that.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
