Most atheists do not own up to the crimes of atheists like Stalin. He was an atheist whose atrocities were directly linked to his belief system. He murdered millions of people (many of them theists) because He did not believe in God.

He killed millions of people because he was an evil, sadistic bastard. I can picture it now: "In the name of atheism, I must now kill a whole bunch of people." Yeah, makes a whole lot of freaking sense.
What people don't seem to understand is the difference between 'causation' and 'correlation'. Lots of nazis ate schitzel, does that make schitzel evil? No, that is fucking stupid.
Stalin didn't kill people because he was an atheist, atheism was not the motivator, until such time someone proves atheism motivates people to mass-murder, kindly: Shut the fuck up.
Actually, atheism WAS a pretty big part of his reasoning. And Lenin DID kill a whole bunch of people because he was an atheist (the clerical purge).
To say crimes in the name of atheism have not been done is as stupid as saying that no crimes have been committed in the name of religion. Sorry, just ain't so.
1) Have you heard of the Crusades or any of the other religious genocides? There will always be someone who kills in the name of religion or non-religion. Difference is the Crusades involved thousands of people taking years of their lives just kill people who didn't agree with them. As opposed to one maniac.
2) So he killed people JUST BECAUSE he didn't believe in god?
Or because, like Hitler and all the dictators, he wanted a total control of the people he governed in order to complete his fantasies of megalomania. That´s why he killed muslim Tzetzens, Jews like Trosky or Lithuanian Catholics or Orthodox BUT he was in good terms with the Orthodox church in Moscow.
didaskalos, do you ‘own up’ to the crimes of Jim Jones? Or David Koresh? You’re all theists.
You probably don’t believe EVERYTHING they believed, but you do have some beliefs in common, right?
Confused?
